Week 2
Three Billy Goats Gruff
Reception have been listening to different versions of the traditional tale "The Three Billy Goats Gruff". We worked in teams to design and build a safe way for the goats to cross the river. The children used their resilience and team work skills brilliantly to create some fantastic strong and practical ideas. Look at our amazing bridge models!
We created wanted posters to hunt down the Troll and stuck them around school.

Rekenreks
This week the children have been introduced to rekenreks in maths. Rekenreks are similar to an abacus and we have been learning how to use them.
We know that instead of counting each bead across, we can subitise (instantly look at a number of objects and recognise how many there) and move a number across at the same time. We have been practising this subitising by putting our finger in the correct place and moving the beads across together. We can confidently do this and have achieved and demonstrated this in just a couple of lessons!
Week 1
I Can Grow a Sunflower
Reception have been looking after their sunflower seeds and over the last few weeks we have been carefully watering our shoots. The children measured how tall their plant is growing. We used our maths skills to measure our sunflowers using cubes and recorded how tall they have grown. Next week we are hoping to take them home and continue to look after them until they have grown into beautiful sunflowers.
The children looked closely at a real sunflower and used oil pastels to show what they could see. They explored colour, shape and simple blending. The children noticed the tiny seeds in the centre, saw the bright yellows and warm oranges and felt the stem which was strong and bumpy.
