Autumn B
Bonfire Night
To celebrate Bonfire Night, the children created beautiful firework pictures by printing with tubes dipped in brightly coloured paint and sprinkling lots of glitter on top to make them sparkle!
At the drawing table, they used felt tip pens to make their own colourful firework patterns and marks.
Using apple slices, melted chocolate and sprinkles, each child made their very own sparkler lolly. A delicious treat to end the day!
Día de los Muertos
We celebrated Spanish Day by learning about Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), a colourful tradition that honours loved ones who have passed away.
The children enjoyed dressing up and taking part in some traditional Spanish dancing. They also used special hole punch tools to cut shapes and patterns into paper, creating their own beautiful red and yellow Spanish fans. It was a fun and creative way to explore another culture!
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
This week we began exploring the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We learned about the characters in the book and talked about how the bears might feel about what Goldilocks does, especially Baby Bear, whose porridge, chair and bed were all used without permission.
To help us connect with the story, we also had the chance to taste porridge with a variety of toppings. After trying each one, the class voted on their favourite. The clear winner was syrup, which everyone agreed made the porridge “just right.”
The children really enjoyed stepping into the world of the Three Bears, and we are looking forward to more story adventures soon.
Maths Size
Just as in the Goldilocks story, where the bears are small, medium and large, we played a game of sorting by size. The children ordered different objects from small, medium to large and talked about what they noticed.
They used their own vocabulary to describe the sizes, including phrases such as tiny one, middle size and big daddy one. It was wonderful to hear them experimenting with language while building their understanding of size and comparison.
Children in Need
The children enjoyed celebrating Pudsey Bear for Children in Need Day. They came to school dressed in their own clothes in exchange for a donation to the charity, and they were very proud to take part.
We had lots of fun activities throughout the day, including a Pudsey finger gym activity, making Pudsey spotty cakes, colouring in pictures and sharing a book with the year 3 children. The class loved joining in and learning about the importance of helping others.
Thelma Three
This week we have been learning about Thelma Three. Thelma Three sometimes makes bad choices (always a favourite with the class) and steals 3 jam tarts from King One.
Nursery have been busy making their very own jam tarts. They helped to mix, knead and roll the pastry. We all agreed with Thelma Three, they were tasty!
Golden Curls
Nursery helped to give Goldiclocks a haircut. We used scissors to make snips and cut Goldilock's long golden curls.
The Gingerbread Man
This week, we had lots of fun exploring the story of "The Gingerbread Man". The children loved using the repeated phrases from the story to help tell it. They got really creative with puppets and props to bring the tale to life!
In Maths, the children practised ordering the spots on the Gingerbread Men from 1 to 5 on the Smartboard. They also enjoyed a game where they matched the number rolled on the dice to cubes on a 5 frame.
For our art activity, the children painted their very own gingerbread person. Each one turned out so unique and full of character! They’re now proudly displayed in our classroom, making it even more special.
Gingerbread Cookies
This week, our Nursery was filled with the wonderful smell of freshly baked gingerbread! The children had a fantastic time baking their very own gingerbread people and the best part was decorating them. Each child got to choose their favourite sweets to make their biscuit extra special.
Luckily, none of our gingerbread people managed to escape from the oven – phew! They all turned out deliciously sweet and were a big hit with the children.
It was a fun and tasty activity that added a little extra warmth to our week!
