Autumn B
Week 5
Today we were treated to Year 3, 4 and 5’s Christmas play. They were brilliant and everyone enjoyed watching it. In maths, We have been doing lots of fraction work. There are lots of methods to apply depending on the question but everyone worked really well. We’ve also had bushcraft this week where we made clay forest animals.
Week 4
in maths this week we have been learning how to divide fractions. In English we have continued our Greek myths comparing two stories that have a similar moral. We also enjoyed a very informative and interactive trip to The Safety Works. The children were very well behaved and asked some great questions.
Week 3
We had a busy week this week. While some were enjoying Robinwood, we got to enjoy street art by making our own throwie. We discovered we have some very talented artists in our class. We also had a lovely, relaxing session making woodland clay models and keyrings out of paracord. We did more cooking with our CHEFF programme and had a NSPCC workshop.
Week 2
We started this week with a Remembrance service to remember those who gave there lives so we could have a better one. Year 6 recited a very clear and precise version of In Flanders Fields by John McCrae. We were very proud of them.
In English this week, we have started to look at Greek mythology focusing on the stories of Pandoras Box and Persephone and the Pomegranate Seeds. We then wrote a prediction of what we thought might happen next in Pandora’s box before the box was opened, and also a letter from Hades to Demeter explaining why he took Persephone.
In we have been adding, subtracting and simplifying fractions.
Week 1
Welcome back Year 6, we hope you’ve had a relaxing half term break.
This week we have been focusing on Remembrance Day by analysing and then learning the poem In Flanders Field by John McCrae. We also read an extract from Private Peaceful by Michael Murpurgo to get a glimpse into what life was like in the trenches. This was then used to help us write diary entries from the perspective of someone living in the trenches, describing what it was like and our thoughts and feelings about it. In art, we continued our Rememberance Day theme and painted pictures of the poppy fields. In maths, we have been looking at fractions.
