Spring Term B
Identifying trees by their twigs and leaves
Listening to nature
Exploring the woods and den building
Having fun in the park
Week 4
What a day the children have had at Gibside! We have had a wonderful day: we have identified different trees by examining their twigs and leaves, we have explored the orangery and taken bark rubbings, we played in the woods building dens and after our delicious lunches we thoroughly enjoyed playing in the Strawberry Castle playground. The children swung, climbed, zip wired and were great friends to each other as they used new equipment. We all returned back to school after an action packed day!
Week 2
This week the children have had a great week. Many of the children went to Washington Wetland Centre and had a great time. Mrs McHatton said they were a real credit to you and the school. The children at school really enjoyed their Environment Day. We went on a Senses Scavenger Hunt, a mini beast hunt in the garden and gathered interesting nature pieces for our nature strip.
In the afternoon we made medallions and planted seeds.
This week’s achievers
Week 1
Wow! What a first week back! The children have settled back into school after their break. In maths we have been collecting, presenting and interpreting data. In English we have begun looking at ‘The owl who was afraid of the dark’. The children are enjoying their geography unit ‘Magical mapping’. They have found out about different types of maps, compass points and they have enjoyed creating their own sketch maps. It has been brilliant to see some of the sketch maps they have created at home. The highlight of the week was World Book Day. Thank you for the wonderful effort you put into their costumes. The children loved showing their classmates their costumes and telling their friends who they were. They enjoyed visiting our newly revamped library and choosing a book. They even enjoyed a webinar with author and illustrator Alex Scheffler. What a busy week we have all enjoyed!
