‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Spring B

Week 4

This week we have been developing our art skills and knowledge learning all about the Pop art movement and in particular Andy Warhol. We learned of that his style of art included lots of bright, vibrant colours and we used his style to create our own work in his style. We used inks and tracing paper to make our own prints and used water colours to add colour. We also produced our own version of his famous Cambells Soup art using felt tips then we experimented with tracing to make our own protrate prints which we then coloured using vibrant colours in his style.

Week 3

This week we have begun a new non fiction book about Earthquakes and Tsunamis. We began by examining the front cover and making observations about what we thought was going on in the images and what we thought the book would be about. We wrote these down along with questions we had about the book and the images. We then did the same examining the contents page and a page about aftershocks from earthquakes. We are really looking forward to looking at the rest of the book and learning more about earthquakes and tsunamis.

On Tuesday we thoroughly enjoyed a visit to Pizza Express where we got to make our own delicious pizzas and learn about the process of how to make a pizza from scratch.

Week 2

This week we have begun a new topic in Science about light. We have carried out an investigation to find out which material would be the best reflector of light that we could use on a book back so that children will be safe in the dark. We have also carried out investigations using mirrors to produce coded messages for our partners to unscramble. We also enjoyed investigating using a mirror to follow curved lines on the yard. We found it quite tricky only using the mirrors to look at our feel and a curved line drawn on the yard.

We have also finished our book about the Iron Man and became budding journalist writing newspaper reports about the final chapter in the book. This was a book we have all really enjoyed and the children have used it as a stimulus to produce some fabulous pieces of writing.
