‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Summer A

Shapes

The children have shown a really strong interest in shapes and construction this past couple of weeks.  They have used 2D magnetic shapes to create designs and 3D models.

In the construction area there has been some elaborate and well thought out models using large and small blocks with some clever balancing.

Children have worked alone and in groups to extend and share ideas.

Spanish Day

As a school we celebrate Spanish day.  Nursery dressed in traditional Spanish dress, flamenco dresses or the colours red and yellow to match the Spanish flag.

Nursery enjoyed making fans, tasted some delicious Spanish toast and fruity Sangria punch.  They tried out some Flamenco dancing with lots of clapping and stomping.

 Vets and Pets

Nursery were introduced to the new role-play area, the Vets.  The adults modelled the different roles in veterinary practice and the children could choose to work at the vets, or bring a pet for treatment.

The children were encouraged to talk about their pets ailments, then the vet used their medical tools to make them better.

Mrs Gray worked with the children to design and create a picture using collage resources of a pet they would like.

Give the Dog a Bone

Using dogs, bowls and dog biscuits, the children practised linking numerals and amounts.  They counted out bones to match the number card.  We focussed on accurate 1-1 counting and knowing when to stop when they have reached the total.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The children have enjoyed and explored this classic story which is always a favourite.  We are beginning to see more minibeasts around this time of year.  Nursery discussed the changes the caterpillar makes and joined in activities linked to the life cycle of a butterfly.

We made hats so the children could pretend to be the caterpillar and act out the story, deciding what foods they would like to eat.

We then decorated some biscuits to look like the caterpillar character in the story.
