‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Summer B

Week 7

What an amazing end to this academic year! We were treated to a Rocksteady show where children showed off their musical skills, followed by the whole school talent show, which was amazing! We said an emotional farewell to our Year 6 children, who have been amazing during their time in WDPS. The Leaver’s video was wonderful, seeing how much everyone had grown and achieved and it was lovely welcoming our Y6 families to a pizza party.
Good luck a Y6- enjoy high school, we will miss you!
Have a brilliant summer everyone, let’s hope the sun shines.

Week 6

We enjoyed our last session of mountain biking coaching this week. A challenging skills loop enabled us to put all the skills we have learnt over the half term to the test. At the end of the session we played our favourite game - “Ruler of the Ring.”

Week 4

On Monday, we were lucky enough to be taught to programme Speros by Steve from RGS. We made faces to animate and then programmed our robots to move. On Wednesday we had mountain biking and our confidence is growing week-on-week. On Friday, year 5 went to Gibside to take part in a Geocaching event, learning to use GPS to find hidden boxes. We have also continued to read Kensuke’s Kingdom, which we are really enjoying.

Week 3

This week our year 5 pupils, as well as those in year 6, were lucky enough to participate in a mountain biking session coached by a British Cycling coach. They learnt all about balance by track standing, as well as using the attack position to navigate some of the drop offs on our school track. After that they were set the challenge of weaving in and out of a set of poles, as well as trying to cycle between pairs of poles that gradually got closer together.

Week 2

This week we have studying and drawing  dragons as part of our Chinese Art topic. Year 6 are in full rehearsal swing preparing for their production of Peter Pan in a few weeks time. We have been doing some creative writing character descriptions about the Dream Giver, a fabulous animation which we enjoyed watching for our inspiration.

Week 1

What a busy start to our last half term. We had a WW2 history day on Monday where we dressed up and learnt about the causes and impact of the war on the people of Britain by looking at various sources of evidence. On Thursday we watched a Newsround special about D Day to remember 80 years since the D Day landings. Also this week, year 6 have been mountain biking and finally, as part of the Life Skills Challenge, the children had a day learning first aid.
