Summer A
Week 3
This week, we continued learning about mass in maths. In English, the children wrote character descriptions of Iris the mermaid, using idioms and embedded clauses. In geography, we finished our topic by learning about different types of rocks. We then went for a walk around the school grounds, and the children used identification sheets and an app to help them decide if the rocks were igneous, sedimentary or metamorphic.
Week 2
We have been learning about mass in maths this week, looking at both grams and kilograms. In English we continued reading Oliver and the Seawigs, with children writing a note from Oliver to his parents and also collecting some adjectives to describe Iris the mermaid. In Geography, we have been learning about different types of volcanoes. We celebrated the 80th anniversary of VE Day on Thursday. The children wore red, white and blue and created their own posters after learning all about the importance of VE Day and why we celebrate. In Bushcraft, we used the Japanese technique of Hapa Zome to create some fantastic prints. The children used natural materials like leaves and flowers, placed them between cotton and then used a hammer to transfer and create the print. We even managed to catch a glimpse of some of our frogs in the pond!
Week 1
In English this week we started reading our new text, Oliver and the Seawigs. We discussed what an explorer is, and used verbs and adverbs to describe things that we would take in our backpacks if we were explorers. The children also learned what an embedded clause is, and we played a game that gave them some silly sentences. In PE, we started tennis in the lovely sunshine. The children learned how to control the ball using the tennis racket. We were also lucky enough to take part in the CHEFF programme. The children made their own delicious wraps!
