‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Spring Term A

Week 6

The children have enjoyed being scientists this week when they carried out a test to find the most suitable bag. In maths they have been subtracting and dividing. In English the children created their own land and wrote an independent report about it.

Week 5

Another busy week in Year 2. The children really enjoyed their bushcraft session. They worked really hard in art, discussing the work of Jackson Pollock and creating their own Kandinsky painting. The children used all the colour techniques: mixing primary colours to make secondary colours, creating tints and creating shades. They have also been writing instructions on ‘How to trap a wolf’, their ideas were amazing and they wrote brilliant instructions.

Week 4

The children are beginning to explore materials and their uses in science. They enjoyed investigating the playground and identifying different materials.
In maths they have been making arrays and using number bonds to solve calculations to 20.

In English the children have been writing non chronological reports about wolves and Antarctica.

Week 3

This week the children really enjoyed a visit from Dog’s Trust. Our visitor helped us t understood how our actions might make a dog feel and she gave us some great tips on how to behave around dogs. The children had lots of great questions for our visitor.

In maths the children are adding and beginning to multiply. They are enjoying learning about Antarctica and how penguins are adapted.

Week 2

This week the children have enjoyed retelling the Lost and Found story and creating their own version. They have worked hard using money, working out totals and giving change. In Geography, the children have enjoyed finding out about how camels are adapted to the Sahara Desert. They had a super art afternoon recreating their own version of Piet Mondrian and mixing colours to create their own Mark Rothko ‘Field of Colour’.

Week 1

Happy New Year!
It has been so lovely to see how well the children have settled back into school after the Christmas break. They have enjoyed sharing all about their Christmas news. They have enjoyed their cycling session and they were delighted when a penguin was left in our classroom with a lost label on, they were able to come up with great questions to ask him.
We have begun our Geography topic asking the question ‘Why can’t penguins fly.’ The children have been fascinated learning about Antarctica, we are sure they can tell you all about what they have learnt.
