‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Spring B

 Windy Wednesday!

Here we are enjoying and observing the effects of windy weather.

 Pancake Day

The children watched Mrs Hughes use 3 ingredients to make pancakes... eggs, flour and milk.  They took it in turns to crack, beat and whisk the eggs with the flour and milk to make the batter. Once ready the pancakes were cooked in the pan whilst the children observed the changes as the batter turned from a liquid to a solid once added to the heat.

Then it was time for the best bit, choosing the topping ... delicious!

Petal Potions

Our mud kitchen is a fun way to get children pouring, mixing, using their imaginations and engaging in pretend play.  The children made soup, potion, tea and desserts with petals.

Role Play Picnic

Nursery have loved the picnic and tea party play this week, developing their imagination and social skills.

Edible Rainbows

We have experienced all kinds of weather today from sunshine, to hailstones and snow!  We were hoping to see a rainbow (and didn't) so we made one instead from fruit loops and marshmallows.  This was a great challenge to build finger strength and develop fine motor control.

Vets and Pets

The children were introduced to the new role-play area, the vets.  The adults modelled the different roles and the children could choose to work at the vets or bring a pet for treatment.  We have enjoyed listening to the story "Hairy McClary's Rumpus at the Vets"

Nursery were encouraged to talk about their pet's ailments, then the vet used their medical tools to make them better.

Perfect Pet

Nursery were asked to think of any pet they would like to have.  The children firstly made a design.  A range of materials were available for them to make their pets with collage and mark making tools.  They chose where their pet would live and talked to Mrs Hughes about them.  They developed their scissor skills and how to combine different materials to create a desired effect.  We have had some interesting ideas.  Nursery have made a lovely pet class display.

  Black and White Day

Well done to Newcastle United for winning the Carabao Cup at Wembley.  Nursery kicked off the celebrations with a Black and White day!

 Loose Parts

A simple invitation to create with loose parts and frames.  This is a beautiful way to create! Transient art means that the materials can be moved around as they won’t be fixed down, so they can be used over and over again.

 Water Play

Water play is a fantastic activity for developing children's hand-eye coordination as they learn to pour, squeeze, stir and even paint with water.  We used different sized bottles and scoops to pour and fill improving their sense of accuracy and control.

Junk Modelling

We love junk modelling!  Nursery thought about what we would like to build and then independently chose our resources. We thought about where and how to stick them, what shapes may represent my model and enjoyed describing them to our friends.
They made lots of different models such as necklace, boat, handbag and castle.
