Autumn B
Week 5
This week we have been learning how to write direct speech. We began by doing role play playing Marcy and her mam and dad. We had to imagine that we were one of the characters and have a conversation about Marcy's adventures. After writing a few ideas and rehearsing we then carried out the role play and one person recorded it on an Ipad. It was great fun and when we were finished we went back to class to share our recordings.
The next day, we discussed our role play and speech and thought about how we could record it in writing. We had a set of jumbled up sentences of instructions to write speech. In groups of 3-4 we reordered the instructions. We were a little surprised to see that we didn't all put them in the same order and found out that we can say who is speaking and how either at the beginning or at the end of speach.
Week 4
We have had a very busy week this week.
In Maths, we have been learning to do column subtraction including exchanging from more than one column. We have also learned some tricks so we can carry out efficient subtraction. It was a little tricky to begin with but we got there and now we are becoming super, efficient subtractors.
We have also been out in the Bushcraft area this week making shelters to help the small animals and creatures that inhabit there so that they are ready for winter. As usuall we were observed by our resident Robin who supervised our work as we went. He is simply gorgeous and loves singing to us.
In art we have been designing our own bauble for a competition and enjoyed getting out everything that sparkles in order to create some stunning designs. In the true spirit of Christmas we have continued to practice for this years Christmas Performance of No One Raps like and Elf. It has some really catchy tunes and the actors have been working really hard to learn their line. We can't wait for you to come and see it.
Week 3
This week, we have enjoyed learning our new songs for our Christmas performance. The children are are in good voice and some have even volunteered to do auditions for solo parts!
In Maths, Year 4 have been solving column addition and subtraction calculations, as well as estimating and calculating with money.
Earlier this week in Geography, the class looked at What Early Settlers needed to settle in an area, focusing on shelter, fuel and water supply. They were able to share super knowledge they learned in a topic about the Stoneage, Iron age and Bronze age that they had studied previously.
Please help us to celebrate the achievements of our children. This week Jenson Barton, Leo Telfer, Emily Telfer and Joel Carvel have been awarded a certificate. Congratulations!
Week 2
On Monday, we took part in a Remembrance Day assembly to remember all of the service men, woman and animals who have made sacrifices during many conflicts so that we can live peacefully. After the assembly we talked in class a little more about Remembrance Day and the conflicts that have occurred over many years. We then went on to write our own acrostic poems using the word Remembrance and then we worked with our partners to make some beautiful Remembrance collage poppies.
In Maths, the focus has been on money, this week. The children have been estimating amounts, by rounding up ,or down, calculating how much items cost and solving two and three step problems.
Please help us to celebrate the achievements of our children . Certificates have been awarded to Charlie Gray, Isla Mayne, Alivia-Nichole Graham-Curtis, Eli Daff and Emily Waugh. Congratulations!
Week 1
We have had a fantastic start to our new half term! In Science, the children have been looking at different types of teeth, highlighting the similarities and differences, as well as trying to identify from the shapes, if they belonged to a herbivore, or omnivore. We have been exploring spreadsheets in ICT. The children have enjoyed collecting data to input on their spreadsheets, resulting in colourful Pie, or bar charts.
Please help us to celebrate with the children who have achieved a certificate this week. Well done to Octavia Mitchell, Evelyn Telfer, Reuben Khupe and Mihindi Evinya.
