Week 4
In English the children have been writing a setting description and learning about how the dark can be kind and fascinating . In Maths we have been learning how to work out ‘the whole’ from given fractions. In Art the children created amazing nature sculptures in the Bushcraft area and created designs with chalk in the style of Orla Kiely. In Science the class used Venn Diagrams to compare and contrast the different seasons. In ICT the children have been creating Art with repeated pattterns in the style of William Morris.

Week 3
In English we have started a new class text, The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark. The children wrote a great character description of Plop with expanded noun phrases and alliteration. In Maths the children have been learning how to work out halves and quarters of different amounts. In History we had a visit from Mr. Davies, Mrs. Elliot's dad, where the children asked him questions about his school days and what is was like. In P.E we have learnt about the importance of stretching when exercising and continued to develop our skills for invasion games. In ICT the children have learnt about the artist Piet Mondrian and recreated some of his artwork using 2Paint. In music the children had to listen to and appraise a song called ‘ Pure Imagination’ from the 1971 film Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory.

Week 2
In English the children have had to write a letter to the aliens to persuade them not to invade our school!
In Maths the children have been looking at the difference between volume and capacity, and have learnt to read different scales. In P.E. we have been learning about invasion games, with a focus on target practise for hockey this week. On Thursday we celebrated VE day by dressing in red, blue and white. We learnt about the end of World War II, eighty years ago. We have also been working hard on key reading comprehension skills, with a focus on inference.

Week 1
The children have had a fantastic week. We found evidence of an alien invasion and the children have been amazing alien investigators and found vital evidence of an alien visit!. In Maths the children have been learning about how to measure temperature and comparing thermometers and temperatures. In History we have been ordering images of schools from the past until the present on a timeline, as well as writing questions to ask a visitor about what was school like (living memory). In Art we made clay sculptures of natural objects from 2D pictures. In ICT we have been learning about Impressionist Art and the children have been using 2Paint A Picture to create their own masterpieces.
