Design Technology (D.T.) Curriculum
Phase 1
- Design purposeful, functional and appealing products
- Generate, model and communicate ideas
- Use a range of tools and materials to complete practical tasks within ‘WDPS I Can Do It!’
- Evaluate existing products and own ideas
- Build and improve structure and mechanisms
- Joining natural materials within ‘WDPS I Can Do It!’
- Understand where food comes from and make sandwiches and pizzas within the ‘WDPS Life Skills Challenge’ modules
Phase 2
- Use research and criteria to develop products which are fit for purpose
- Use annotated sketches and prototypes to explain ideas
- Evaluate existing products and improve own work within ‘WDPS I Can Do It!’ building shelters.
- Use mechanical systems in own work
- Understand and apply the principles of a healthy and varied diet ‘WDPS Life Skills Challenge’ task making beans on toast
- Understand seasonality; and know where and how a variety of ingredients are grown, reared, caught and processed utilising ‘WDPS I Can Do It!’
Phase 3
- Use research and criteria to develop products which are fit for purpose and aimed at specific groups
- Use annotated sketches, cross-section diagrams and computer-aided design
- Analyse and evaluate existing products and improve own work
- Use mechanical and electrical systems in own products, including programming as well as using more complex tools within the ‘WDPS I Can Do It!’ (whittling tools)
- Understand and apply the principles of a healthy and varied diet
- Understand seasonality; and know where and how a variety of ingredients are grown, tended and harvested within ‘WDPS I Can Do It!’
- Prepare and cook a variety of predominantly savoury dishes using a range of cooking techniques, including creating a pasta dish as part of ‘WDPS Life Skills Challenge’
