‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Autumn B

Week 3

This week in Geography, Year 3 have been using atlases to identify settlements built by invaders. They learned about clues in place names which can help us to work out who built a settlement, for example places ending in -chester, -caster and -cester were first built by the Romans, and that they all mean “castle”. in English, the children learned all about play scripts. They identified key features, and then used examples to write their own play script scene. They had to remember to include a scene title, cast list, speaker names in the margin, and stage directions.

Week 2

This week, we finally finished reading Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx. The children then worked in groups to role play a conversation between Marcy and her parents, telling them all about her adventures in Egypt. They then used inverted commas to turn this conversation into direct speech. After discussing the significance of Remembrance Day, the children wrote acrostic poems and created some amazing artwork to commemorate the day. On Friday, the school was filled with lots of yellow ears and spots to raise money for Children in Need!

Week 1

This week, the children have been learning how to say different moods and feelings in their Spanish lessons. They've been working really hard on their expression and pronunciation! Year 3 have also continued learning how to play the ukulele in their music lessons with a specialist teacher from the Music Service. We started our new Geography topic this week, looking at what a Settlement is, and what Early Settlers would have looked for in a place.
