‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Summer Term B

Blue Reception Class of 2022-23

Congratulations to all our Reception children for having such a successful year. It has been a pleasure to teach each and every one of them. I have loved watching them grow into confident and happy learners.  I will miss my lovely class and I am unbelievably proud of the resilience, hard work and progress they made.  I could not have wished for a better class!

  Party Time!

The children played party games to celebrate a fantastic year in Reception!

Week 5

 Tynemouth Aquarium

Reception enjoyed their visit to Tynemouth aquarium. We began with a small workshop where we learned about different rockpool creatures.  The children enjoyed looking at and had a feel of a starfish, sea urchin and anemone.  We then had time to explore the aquarium ourselves and were thrilled to find lots of different types of fish and creatures, including stingrays, seals and sharks! The children loved looking at all the different types of fish and particularly enjoyed going through the ocean tunnel.

Today we learnt lots of new 'under the sea' yoga poses from Mrs Scott.  Yoga helps improve our balance, control and mindfulness.

Observational Drawings

The Reception children have been developing their observational drawing skills this term. They have been learning how to improve their drawings by listening to and taking on advice from their friends and teachers. They are very proud of their recent sea creature drawings.

Week 4

 Big Me

Big Me was a day for children to come to school dressed as what they want to be when they grow up.  The children came dressed as a wonderful range of occupations including a hairdresser, botanist, zoo keeper, dancer, police officer, teacher, football coach and vet!

Pedal Power!

We have made amazing progress in our cycling sessions.  This week we practised pedalling and steering our bikes around obstacles.

 Summer Sentences

Reception have been 'thinking of sentence, saying a sentence and then writing a sentence'.  We remembered to say our sentence lots of times to help remember what to write.  They used 'Fred fingers' accurately sound out words for writing and practised using finger spaces too.

Week 3

Bee Awareness Day

Reception made bee crafts and enjoyed learning facts.  Here are some of our favourites:

  • Bees look out for each other and work together like one big family
  • They are hard working and most live in a hive.
  • Without bees there would be no plants.
  • They collect pollen using baskets on their legs.
  • Bee's have 6 legs and 5 eyes.
  • They have a long tongue to suck up nectar.

Week 2

 Summer

Summer has arrived in Reception!  This week we have been talking about the changing of the season and spotting signs of Summer.  Due to the weather being so warm we have also been learning about the importance of keeping ourselves safe in the sunshine including wearing a sun hat, drinking lots of water and putting sun cream on.

Fun in the sun! 😎☀️

Week 1

Cycling

This term Mrs Williams will be delivering cycle coaching in our Reception class.  The children loved their first session using a balance bike and lifting their feet.

  Rekenreks

This week the children have been introduced to rekenreks in maths. Rekenreks are similar to an abacus and we have been learning how to use them.
We know that instead of counting each bead across, we can subitise (instantly look at a number of objects and recognise how many there) and move a number across at the same time.  We have been practising this subitising by putting our finger in the correct place and moving the beads across together. We can confidently do this and have achieved and demonstrated this in just a couple of lessons!
