Autumn Term B
Autumn 2 Week 1
As well as writing a sensory description of bonfire night, we also learned the Firework Safety rules so we could have fun and stay safe on Bonfire Night.
We had great fun finding out about hedgehogs and creating our own pictures of them. First we painted the pictures using watercolours then we collaged them with card and paper for the hedgehogβs spines. Donβt they look great?, π¦πΎβ€οΈ
Autumn 2 Week 2
This week we have been learning about the Great Fire of London in 1666. We had to think about the causes and consequences of events to explain why the fire lasted for 4 days and was so difficult to put out. We then ordered these causes by their importance.
On Remembrance Day, we had a whole school assembly to remember those involved in wars. We looked very smart in our red poppies. We wrote a description of a poppy field and also wrote about life in the trenches of WW1. After the 2 minute silence, we visited our Garden of Remembrance to lay some wreathes there.
Congratulations to our children who received an Achievers Award this week. Well done to Lucy, Mia, Sophie, Jay and Blake πππ
Autumn 2 Week 3
We had lots of fun this week making chocolate crispy cakes! We then wrote instructions for how to make them, using time words and bossy words! We enjoyed sampling the finished crispy cakes! πππ«
In Bushcraft this week, Mrs McHatton taught us a new skill - how to use a bow saw. We had a tool talk so that we knew how to use it safely, then worked in pairs under close supervision. We all enjoyed our time exploring the Bushcraft area as the photographs show!
In Science, we have been learning how we change and grow. We then lined up in age order to see if the oldest would also be the tallest. We discovered that the line didnβt reduce in height from the oldest to the youngest, and that some younger children were taller than their friends who were older!

We enjoyed a fantastic workshop this week constructing 3D shapes! Martin taught us how to make tetrahedrons by using canes and elastic bands to join them together. We learned that triangle shapes are really strong and are great for building. We finished by making an enormous bridge and tunnel structure which we were able to walk through!
Thank you for all of your generous donations to Children In Need. We learned about Children In Need and how it helps children around the country. We all looked fabulous in our colourful outfits! We even drew Pudsey Bear step by step! π§Έπ
Congratulations to all of our Achievers this week! A big well done to Chloe, Elise, AJ, Ella and… the whole class who were complimented by other members of staff on their lovely manners! ππππ
Autumn 2 Week 4
We practised the 10 times table in maths and had to order the numbers from smallest to largest. We know that all of the numbers in the 10 times table en in 0.
We had a wonderful time in the Bushcraft area this week. We reviewed what we had learned about Autumn and then discussed what signs of Winter we could see. We then had some more practice with the bow saw and had the opportunity to explore the different areas with our friends.
Autumn 2 Week 5
This week we have been learning about the Jewish festival of light, Hanukkah π. We experienced what it was like to receive gifts and learned the story of the Maccabees in the temple who had enough oil in their lamps for 8 days. We learned about some Jewish traditions for celebrating this festival, such as playing games, giving gifts and preparing special food.
We have been learning a new Christmas song about a Christmas party ready for our virtual performance on Friday. We have also learned the British Sign Language signs to accompany the song so that hearing impaired people can enjoy the performance too.
In Science we have been learning about the importance of staying healthy by exercising. We found out that exercise increases our heart rate and we compared our heart rates after a calm body activity and a busy body activity. After we had been doing star jumps, our hearts were beating much faster, our faces were pink and we got a bit out of breath!

In Science we have also focused on hygiene, including the importance of hand washing. We have sequenced the steps of hand washing and we have also taken part in some experiments with βgermsβ to see how we can get rid of them! We found out that our secret weapon against germs, bacteria and viruses is... SOAP!
Congratulations to this week’s children who received an Achievers Award this week. A big well done to Ralphy, Freddie, Isla, Jonny and Millie B ππππ
Autumn 2 Week 6
We learned about the Christmas Nativity Story and found out about what Christians believe. We talked about Christian traditions when celebrating Christmas πππ

We had Christmas Jumper Day! Donβt we all look fantastic in our colourful cosy jumpers?! πππ πΌβοΈβοΈπ¦

Autumn 2 Week 7
This week we had our Craft Afternoon for KS1 families to come into school and join their children for some Christmas crafting fun! A great time was had by all! ππ πΌβοΈβοΈπ¦π πΌ
This week we took part in a Design Technology mini project all about skyscrapers. We learned that DT was designing something for somebody for some purpose.
We evaluated 4 famous skyscrapers to see if the looked good and did what they were designed to do! We enjoyed finding out about The Gherkin and the Walkie Talkie building in London, The Burj Al Arab in Dubai and the Chrysler building in New York. The Burj Al Arab was the most popular in our class because it looked so fancy inside!
We designed our own skyscraper, after we had investigated strong shapes. We had to make sure that our skyscraper had a wide, sturdy base so that it wouldn’t fall over. We also wanted to make sure that they looked good!
We then had to make our own skyscraper using a range of fixing and joining techniques. It was lots of fun!
Autumn 2 Week 8
We have had a very busy week this week, with our class party and our visit to the Church of the Holy Spirit for our Christmas Service. It was our first service there in 3 years but the children managed really well, walking to and from the church and sitting nicely too.
Many thanks for the lovely cards and gifts you have sent in for staff, it is much appreciated. Thank you for the support you give your children. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a restful holiday ππ πΌππ¦βοΈβοΈ
