Autumn Term A
This week, Year 5 have started getting to grips with a new reading computer program called Reading Plus. The web based resource creates a bespoke approach for each child. The children were buzzing and totally engaged. Your child can access this at home as well as in school. Their login is their first name and first letter of their last name. For example, John Brown would be JohnB. The children’s password is qwerty and the site code is rpwestd3. Please try this out over the holidays at http://student.readingplus.com/seereader/api/sec/login. Good luck!
This was the last week for year 5 ‘s Street Dance sessions. The children have been amazing and a massive thank you to Emily.
Today year five were treated to a Rap talk by broadcaster Jonathan Dimbleby. The children were an absolute credit to themselves, their families and WDPS.
Year 5 had a visit from the head of Studio West. Due to COVID 19, we forwarded the children’s questions in advance and two past pupils answered them by video.

The History Bloke
Year 5 have had a really busy week. On Friday, they were treated to a morning with ‘the History Bloke’ - Richard. This involved learning all about World War I and finding out about a soldier called Thomas Young. Thomas Young was a stretcher bearer in the Great War. Richard even had the class marching and standing to attention.
Rocksteady Music School
Year 5 have had a music workshop with Rocksteady Music who have been in school today. How cool do the children look? They look as though they have been doing it for years. Enjoy the videos.

Allotment and Edible Garden
Our children have been working really hard in our allotment and 'Edible Garden' area weeding, watering, and digging over beds ready for replanting. We also worked in teams to build secure dens in our bushcraft area.
Bushcraft - Loose Parts and Den Making
Our children in Year 5 have been in the bushcraft area working on their mental wellbeing and life skills. They made transient art pictures about things that mean a lot to them, using natural loose parts. In teams they built dens and made up their own games.
In our allotment and edible garden, the Year 5 children have been taking responsibility for their own safety, whilst using tools to weed the garden patches. They have also enjoyed finding mini beasts and trying some of the fruit that has flourished.
