Autumn A
Week 8
It’s bread week in Phase 3! The children have been learning all about bread for their Design & Technology. They loved tasting and evaluating different breads, thinking about the appearance, texture and taste- surprisingly the fruity loaf was the least popular and baguette a clear favourite!
In Bushcraft, the children made delicious flatbreads on the fire and they loved designing and making their own bread.
Bonfire safety videos were discussed and the children enjoyed making posters. Check out their wonderful collection of art.
Everyone’s spooky outfits were wonderful and great fun was had at the disco.
Week 7
This week the children continued reading our class text, Skellig and have been writing diary entries from the different characters’ points of view. In PE they had another street dance session, learning a new routine and some new dance moves, it is amazing how quickly they can learn to perform a routine! The children have been developing their coding skills in Computing, programming and debugging an animal racing game. In Maths, the children were using manipulatives to investigate prime and square numbers.
Week 6
The children have been continuing their Geography topic and this week they had to discuss and decide what the positive and negative impacts of global trade might be. They also looked on world maps to see how global trade has changed since the Tudor and Victorian times. The children produced some wonderful creative writing based on an image of an adventurer. Year 5 had their final BMX session to really show off their cycling talents. In Maths, the children have been learning about common factors and multiples. In PE the children learned a new dance routine and also developed their fitness with boxersize.
Week 5
We have been continuing our Geography topic about Trade and Economics, and this week we have been finding out Fair Trade and how it benefits farmers and their communities when we buy Fair Trade
products. The children loved their self-led art SEMH lesson and their creations were amazing. We are loving Skellig and have been making predictions about the book, based on character’s actions and emotions. In math we have been problem solving and adding and subtracting numbers up to 10,000. Some of our Y5 students put their new BMX skills to the test at the Pump Track, Chopwell. Read of our exciting writing about Rock, Paper, Scissors in the photo section.
Week 4
This week week some of our Y5 children continued to develop their BMX skills ready for the visit to the Pump track next week. In street dance, we continued to learn the new routine and everyone participated amazingly well. In science the children were challenged with deciding whether statements were true or false and justifying their choices.
Week 3
In our reading of Skellig, we have been finding evidence to either support or refute statements. In Maths, we have been learning about the place value of numbers up to 1,000,000 and in arithmetic we have been continuing to learn about adding fractions. In our Geography lessons about trade we have been studying world maps and identifying which countries the UK imports and exports to. Our dance routines are coming along brilliantly in our Street Dance sessions and year 5 have been continuing to develop their BMX cycling skills. Check out the art we did in the photos below for week 1 of our self-led art- we think you’ll be amazed!
Week 2
What a busy week- the children have been learning about setting in Skellig. We have started our new Geography topic about Trade and the children have been finding out about exports and imports from and to the UK. In Maths, we have learning about place value up to 10,000,000. The year 5 pupils also had the opportunity of some BMX coaching with a British Cycling coach.
