Spring A
Week 1
Winter and Polar Animals
We have focused on talking about the weather, in particular, how cold it has been and what the children have noticed in their environment. Nursery explored which clothes we wear in Winter and a looked at which animals live in a cold habitat.
Bench Balance
Nursery developing their gross motor skills using the balance beam to walk along and jump safely off.
Week 2
Snowman Collages
This week the children used their fine motor skills to tear up paper into small pieces to then make a collage snowman. They chose their own hats, scarves and features for their snowman.
Week 3
Café
The role play area has been transformed into a café with different roles for the children to take on. Chefs, waitress/waiter and of course customers. The adults supported the children to carry out the tasks and understand the roles
Construction
There was some fantastic Duplo house building going on today. The adult helped to form the structure of a house and the children used their own ideas and creative flare to improve it. Lots of lovely sharing, focus and fine motor skills used.
Maths Challenge
Nursery used Numicon apparatus and matched them to the Ten Town characters 1, 2 and 3. We then counted out the correct number of objects. The children then practised forming the numbers using the Ten Town mantra's i.e. King One "Top to toe and there you go".
Music and Movement
We start our morning routine by taking the register, then meet an online character from 'Ten Town' and finish with movement to wake up our bodies. Here is Nursery trying out Zumba.
The Little Red Hen
This week we have listened to the story of 'The Little Red Hen'. We have developed our own story telling using the repeated refrains from the story, such as, "Not I", said the cat or "Then I will do it myself", said the Hen. At the story table children were using the props to re-enact the story using different character voices and intonation as well as the repeated refrains they had heard.
Baking Bread
With Mrs Hughes the children helped to make some bread buns, just like the Hen. They were shown how to knead the dough and shape into circles. Whilst making the bread Mrs Hughes engaged in story telling with the children, encouraging them to re-tell the story with her. We made enough buns to take one home each and some extra ones for snack time the following day.
Developing their pencil grip to make a track from the Little Red Hen to another character.
