‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Spring A

Week 5 and 6

In weeks 5 and 6 we began a new science topic on Animals and Their Habitats. We revisited our learning from our topic in September revising vertebrates and invertebrates and exoskeletons, endoskeletons and Hydrostatic Skeletons before learning that there are even more categories for living things including mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians. We also learned to use different tables to catagorise and group them including Venn and Carroll diagrams and Yes No tables. We really enjoyed learning about animals we had never even hear of before this topic.

Week 3 & 4

Over the last 2 weeks we have been learning about The Stone Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age and have been reading the Book Ug - Boy Genius which we have loved. In art we have been looking at the Lion Man which is a clay sculpture found dating back to the Stone age, We really enjoyed producing sketches of the Lion man and experimenting with different tones, shades and tints using brown's and earth colours before sculpting out very own Lion Man.

Week 2

This week we have continued working on our Life Skills Challenge award and we have been learning to bow saw safely. It took a lot of muscle power and perseverance but we showed our resilience and didn't give up despite the very cold weather.

In history we have started out new topic about the Stoneage, Iron age and Bronze age. Timelines are always tricky to understand so we went into the hall and made our own human timeline mapping out the different stages of from the Stone Age beginning to the Iron Age ending.

Week 1

Welcome back and Happy New Year. This week has been a new start at West Denton Primary School as we become an accadamy trust school part of the One Trust alongside.
