‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Autumn B

Week 1

Fireworks

Nursery celebrated November 5th by making some very sparkly firework pictures using lots of bright colours and glitter.

The children made a paper firework with different materials, using their fine motor skills to manipulate the streamers.

We made some delicious chocolate apple sparklers with lots of sprinkles to take home and eat.  Delicious!

Week 2

Goldilocks and the Three Bears

This week's activities have been based around the traditional story "Goldilocks and the Three Bears".  They have loved retelling the story, changing their voices for the different characters and joining in with the repeated refrains from the tale.  Nursery have used puppets to role play with their peers, which has been lovely to watch.

Mrs Gray made some Bear hats with the children.  They used mark making tools and resources to design their character hat and put them together with a glue stick.

The children produced some brilliant paintings of the Bears and Goldilocks with some guidance from one of our lovely students.  We are proud of our work and are making a display to show it off!

Finally, Mrs Hughes made some delicious porridge, just like Mummy Bear!  Most of the children tried the three different toppings, strawberry, chocolate sauce and golden syrup.  Which flavour is your favourite?

 Children in Need

Parents very kindly made a donation for their child to come to school in their own clothes.  Some of us wore spots, yellow and even bear shaped ears!  We had a great time making spotty biscuits and Pudsey Bear collages.

Week 3

  Size

We talked about and completed activities all about size - small, medium and large.

Our student Amy played a sorting game with the children.  She encouraged them to use size vocabulary and assessed their understanding.

Nursery used the compare bears to match the correct colour and size bear as the pattern cards.

On the interactive whiteboard they played a select the smallest and biggest game.

Golden Curls

Nursery helped to give Goldiclocks a haircut.  We used scissors to make snips and cut Goldilock's long golden curls.

 Thelma Three

We use a fantastic online interactive programme in Early Years called "Ten Town".  The children learn about all the characters who live there through stories, songs and games.  We started at 'Zero Pond' at the start of the school year and this week we have been learning about Thelma Three.  Thelma Three sometimes makes bad choices (always a favourite with the class) and steals 3 jam tarts from King One.

Mrs Hughes made jam tarts with the children to take home.  Here they are finding groups of 3 objects on the interactive whiteboard.

  Jam Tarts

Nursery have been busy making jam tarts.  We helped to mix, knead and roll the pastry.  We all agreed with Thelma Three, they were tasty!

Week 4

  Bear Toast

To finish our "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" topic we made some delicious bear toast.  The children used a knife to spread the chocolate, counted out 3 pieces of banana and 3 blueberries to complete the bears face.  We enjoyed eating it at snack time.

  Snow Dough

The children were excited to tell us about the snow we had at the weekend and how they enjoyed playing in it.  We made white snow dough and collected branches, twigs, pebbles and fir cones for the playdough area.  Together with our Winter animals they made some lovely 'Winter woodland' scenes.

Week 5

The Gingerbread Man

This week's fairytale is "The Gingerbread Man".  We have listened to different versions of the story from books, using puppets, storymap and watching animations on the SMARTBoard.

We learned how to use a stencil to draw our own Gingerbread Man outline and added button features.

At the painting table some of the children made portraits of a Gingerbread Man or Lady.

This week we baked a Gingerbread person.  We helped to measure and mix the ingredients, roll the dough, use the cutters and decorated the shapes with icing and chocolate drops.  The Nursery smelt delicious and luckily our baking didn't run away!

Week 6

Christmas Crafts

Christmas activities are in full swing and the children are busy, busy, busy as are the staff!

 Christmas Nativity Play

The Nursery children looked so beautiful in their costumes and performed very well.  They were so brave singing infront of all of the grown ups.

We were all very proud of them.

Week 7

 Christmas Lunch

Nursery celebrated with a Christmas dinner.  Roast turkey with all the trimmings and Christmas music.

Christmas Party

We had lots of fun at our class party.  The children all looked fantastic in their party clothes.  We played games and danced our socks off!

Nursery finished with some scrumptious food.

Santa's Treehouse Grotto

The children had an exciting time in the Bushcraft area to see our special visitor Santa.  They sang him a song, had milkshake with a chocolate sweet treat, then told Santa what they wished for for Christmas.  Each child caught a selection box which came down the slide from the treehouse.
