Film Club
Film Club members have had the opportunity in the past to participate in the 'Film Buff Challenge'. During this challenge, children had to watch and review 15 films from a special list given by Into Film, and successfully achieved their Silver, Gold and Platinum Film Buff Award in Summer of 2018.
This Year, Miss Torrance decided to change her 6 year old Film Club from watching and reviewing films, to learning all about behind - the - scenes roles and film making tasks. This academic year so far, Film Club members have enjoyed creating their own characters out of clay and filming them on 'I Can Animate' on the iPads. Also, West Denton's Film Club have planned, acted and filmed their own scenes and produced masks for 'Special Effects' week.
In December 2017, Miss Torrance and her Film Club were recognised by Into Film, and were featured on their website as 'Film Club of the Month'. Since then, Miss Torrance has entered the film company's annual 'Film Awards' which has resulted in winning film related prizes for our school.
Before the Christmas holidays, Film Club took part in an exciting 'Christmas Film Quiz' that was supplied by Into Film. Miss Torrance sent off the completed answer sheets by the children and she was delighted when she received an Amazon gift voucher for her club last week!
On Tuesday 14th January, Film Club will get to choose a DVD for them, and the children of WDPS, to share and enjoy.
For the rest of this half term (till Feb half term), Film club will be able to watch and enjoy one of the films they have chosen.
Miss Torrance was one of 200 Film Club leaders in the country to win a free printed resource for the new film 'Sonic The Hedgehog'. She is very excited to begin the literacy, numeracy and PE based activities next half term (end of February - March) with her Tuesday lunchtime Film Club.
The brilliant news that Miss Torrance has been shortlisted for Into Film's Awards 2020 came apparent last week! She has been nominated for 'Teacher of the Year' and will be attending an awards ceremony in London in March!
This half term at Film Club, the children have watched a short excerpt from Shrek to help them create their own stained glass windows. The used different materials and used resilience to reconstruct the windows in the church that Princess Fiona destroyed turning into an ogre!
Also at film club, the children are making board games and creating their own avatars for a board game based on Jumanji! Such fun!
