‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Autumn B

Week 7

Christmas Crafts Workshop

A huge thank you to all the parents who joined us for our Christmas Crafts Parent Workshop. It was lovely to see so many families taking part and getting creative together. The children had a wonderful time making baubles and designing their own Christmas cards.

We hope you enjoyed the experience as much as the children did.

Winter Play, Baubles and Reindeer Food ❄️☃️

 Christmas Party

Reception had a wonderful morning full of dancing, party games and party food.  Don't we look fantastic in our party clothes!

Week 6

Santa's Treehouse Grotto

We had a special visitor in our Bushcraft area.  Santa Claus came to visit and handed out treats and gifts to the children.  Reception were so excited to see Santa!

 Christmas Labels

We have been using our 'Fred fringers' to spell and write words.

Christmas Dinner

Reception celebrated with a Christmas dinner.  Roast turkey with all the trimmings and Christmas music.

Save the Children Christmas Jumper Day

 Nursery Rhyme Nativity

The children have enjoyed another busy week in school and the excitement for Christmas is beginning to build! We have been working hard on our Christmas production of Nursery Rhyme Nativity and the children are looking forward to performing this on Wednesday.

Week 5

 Oi Frog!

The children loved reading the book "Oi Frog!" by Kes Gray this week.  They had a good giggle at flea's sitting on peas and dog sitting on frog and loved making up some of their own versions.  We practised our rhyming skills while matching rhyming pairs.

Caption Writing

Threading Frogs

Drawing Characters

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Reception class have been practising for our performance. We worked as a team to decorate our class Christmas tree.

Week 4

 Rosie's Walk Book Talk

We have been talking about the story Rosie's Walk.  The children worked in groups to look at the illlustrations from the book.   They were encouraged to use the phrases "I think" and "because" to explain their answers.  Why do you think the fox is following Rosie?  Do you think Rosie knows she is being followed?  Some of the children felt Rosie had no idea fox was following her while others thought she wanted to get sly fox into trouble!

We have learning to write a caption, leaving finger spaces between words, a full stop to end and 'Fred fingers' to spell.

Stampoline Patterns for 5

Reception printed their own 5 patterns and used spatial language to describe it.

Week 3

Parts and Whole

This week the children have been learning about 'part' and 'whole.' We have looked at toys with different parts and even different body parts.  The children learnt that all the parts together make a whole.  We then moved on to making sets of 2 and 3. They learnt that 1 and 2 are parts of 3. Below is a link to the Numberblocks episode that explores 'part' and 'whole'

Rosie's Walk

Our story of the week is "Rosie's Walk" by Pat Hutchins.  We took an aerial photo of our group story maps.  We used position words and the maps to retell the story in the correct order.

Week 2

Remembrance Day

Theo and the Velvet Onesies

Reception were fascinated to learn children had to sleep underground during the war to stay safe in London.  We found out that the prime minister Winston Churchill's siren suit was the original onesie!  The children used loose parts to make their own poppy designs.

 Lest We Forget

Reception observed the two minute silence on Remembrance Day.  We watched the Cbeebies animation 'Poppies' and talked about how the rabbit was feeling.

  Equal Amounts

We helped Baby Bear share the party items so that each bear had an equal amount. The children also compared groups of up to 3 objects by matching them one to one, practising their early maths and sharing skills in a fun, hands on way.

Children in Need

Thank you to all the families who helped us support Children in Need this year! The children came in non-uniform and together we raised over £200. What a fantastic day we had, raising money for a great cause!

The children also enjoyed decorating their own spotty cupcakes and taking part in the fundraising activity ‘Hook a Duck’, inspired by the story "Pudsey’s Great Fundraiser".

Week 2

Bonfire Night

 Fireworks Crafts

We created a Bonfire Night pictures using a variety of media, including collage, mono prints, and chalks. Reception explored bonfire themed pattern cards and used paintbrushes to mark make, adding their own creative touches to the display.

Edible Sparklers

Reception had fun making edible fireworks for snack. They used icing sugar and colourful sprinkles to create their own sparkler designs. The children enjoyed their creations, and they were delicious!

Bonfire Night

Our independent brave write this week focused on Bonfire Night. The children used a robot 'Fred Talk' voice to sound out words and described the spectacular sights they could see during the firework displays.

 Five

This week the children have been using the song 'Five Little Peas' when looking at the number 5.  They have been making collections of 5 using a hand template and then a die frame. The children soon realised that if you put two die frames together there are 10 in total - "5 and another 5 make 10 altogether".

 Day of the Dead

On Wednesday, the children took part in a whole school Spanish Day celebrating a tradition 'Dia De Los Muertos' that honours the lives of loved ones. To join in the festivities, the children came to school dressed in their Halloween costumes, adding even more colour and excitement to the day!
