Week 6
We had a special visitor this week… Santa! We enjoyed singing carols, drinking hot chocolate round the campfires and sharing our Christmas wishes with our magical guest. We all received a yummy selection box as an early Christmas gift.
In English, we were sorting summaries about the text and then wrote own about chapter 7 of holes. In PSHE, we made posters about dealing with anger and in maths we have been multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. We wrote messages and made Christmas cards to send to our friends at our link school in Spain, in our Spanish lesson.
We have also been wonderfully entertained, watching the Christmas performances.
Week 5
We were delighted to invite our families in this week for a ‘helping your child to loves maths’ workshop. Together we played lots of fun maths games and talked about the ways we use maths in our every day life.
In English, we have been continuing to study Holes and we really enjoyed continuing our typography unit in art, making sketches on maps, using charcoal.
Week 4
The children have been developing their artistic skills by designing their own themed lettering in our typography art unit. We also enjoyed welcoming our parents and careers into school for a ‘Help you child love maths’ workshop.
Week 3
This week started with an incredible visit to RobinWood Activity Centre for our residential visit. It was amazing seeing the children rise the challenge of so many different activities, while supporting each other in many different ways.
The week ended on a high with a Year 6 transition event at Studio West where the children learned new cooking skills and made delicious pizzas.
Week 2
We had an unforgettable trip to York this week where we explore the city walls, saw York Minster and as part of our history study of the Vikings, we went to Jorvik and Dig. We learned so much about how the Vikings lived and we practised being archaeologists, finding buried artefacts.
We had a non-uniform day to raise money for Children in Need and enjoyed reading with our younger friends in KS1.
Week 1
We’ve had a very busy start to the new half term. In Science, we have started to learn about inheritance and we were identifying features that we have inherited from our parents including earlobes that may or may not be attached to our heads and the ability to roll our tongues. In Spanish, we celebrated Day of Dead and loved dressing up and playing spooky Spanish games. Mr. Johnston came and talked to us about some VikIng artefacts and we predicted what that may be- ready for our visit to Yorvik next week and we also did a little fieldwork practise on the school yard to help us prepare for exploring the city of York. In our new art topic, we were creating our own typography lettering.
