‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Autumn B

Week 7

Well that’s us all done for this term and this calendar year. We’ve had a very busy week making calendars, Christmas cards, doing Christmas math problems, enjoying our disco, the Christmas service at the church… the list goes on. We hope you thoroughly enjoy your well deserved break and we will see you all in January. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Week 6

We are fully in festivity mode here at WDPS. We were lucky enough to go and see the big man himself, Santa, in our grotto in the Bushcraft area this week. Spirits were high as we sang Christmas songs around the campfire, had hot chocolates, hung our Christmas wishes on the tree, and finally met Santa himself. We’ve also watched KS1’s nativity play which was adorable.  Christmas dinner was another huge highlight. We have squeezed in some work along the way with a comprehension on Holes in English, and looking at equivalent fractions in maths.

Week 5

This week, we have been doing Christmas word problems in maths. In English we have been looking at the characters we have met so far in our class reading book Holes by Louis Sacher. We have also started writing a diary entry from Stanley’s perspective and first impressions of Camp Green Lake. In science we’ve been looking at fossils.

Week 4

It was assessment week this week and unfortunately had the dreaded sickness bug doing the rounds, so we were a little thin on the ground. However our highlight was the trip to York on Thursday. We visited the Jorvik museum learning all about Viking life, dug for artefacts at The Dig, and finished with a wander around the city testing our geography skills. It was a great day with everyone behaving impeccably.

Week 3

It’s been a slightly different week this week with the RW residential. You can find photos from the trip here: Robinwood photos

For the rest of us, we enjoyed some messy Viking art with clay and then used paper straws to make Viking longboats. We also had fun in the bushcraft area, and enjoyed a fun fitness session.

Week 2

This week in history, we’ve made a Viking timeline and explored why they came. In maths we’ve been solving word problems.

In English, we’ve looked at figurative language to describe the desert and Iin art, we have started looking at typography.

Week 1

This week in English, we have written a poem based on War Horse where the children had to follow the pattern of the poem. It was challenging but everyone did a fantastic job. We’ve also started looking at our new book Holes by Louie Sacher, where we have made predictions on what we think the book could be about based on the front cover.

In maths, we’ve been looking at long division, using our times table knowledge. We were also able to help Mrs McHatton tidy the bushcraft area, enjoying some time outdoors.
