Summer B
P.E.
This half term our PE days are Tuesday and Thursday. These will be outdoor sessions, weather permitting.
Week 7
We bid farewell to our Year 6 children today. We are so very proud of all that they have achieved during their time with us at West Denton and we wish them the very best of luck in high school and with their future careers.
Week 6
We are so proud of Year 5, who, were were amazing during Bikeability training this week. They were so well behaved and learned how to be safe when cycling on the roads, even going for a ride around the local area to try out their new safety skills. Sports Day was a huge success and the children definitely showed their competitive sides. In maths, we have been calculating missing angles on a straight line and learning that opposite angles are equal. We had our step up morning and met our new class teachers and Year 6 have been visiting their new high schools.
Weeks 4 & 5
What a busy couple of weeks we’ve had. The children enjoyed making mathematical art while exploring radius, circumference and the diameter of circles and mastering how to use a compass, which was very tricky! In English we have started a unit called Titanium and the children have written excellent setting descriptions. In maths we have also started learning about angles and how to a protractor to measure.
Year 6 looked wonderful in their 80s themed outfits and their singing was amazing in their Leavers’ Assembly- we are very proud of them!
Week 3
In maths this week the children have been focusing on algebra. They have been learning about formulae, expressions and equations. In Bushcraft, the children enjoyed some imaginative play and creativity- we even had some impressive sculptures made based on our reading of Clockwork.
Week 2
We have been designing, building and testing bridges this week, focusing on trusses to strengthen. The bridges had to be 40cm in length and hold 500g of weight. Some of our bridges were so strong they held more than 4kg!
Week 1.
We have had a very busy start to the last half term. In Science, the children have been investigating which materials are solvable and unsolvable, they made some interesting observations and enjoyed discussing their findings. To finish our study of Clockwork, they children have written their own suspense stories. In PE the children have been practising their fielding techniques in rounders. They have also taken part in various activities for Child Safety Week.
