Week 4

 Lost and Found

Reception had a delivery of a penguin, we discussed and debated where it might have come from. We then found the book "Lost and Found" by Oliver Jeffers.  We enjoyed reading the story and learnt that the Penguin was from the South Pole. Reception looked up the South Pole on a world map.

Cycling

Mrs Williams will be delivering cycle coaching in our Reception class.  The children loved their first session using a balance bike and lifting their feet.

Week 3

Handa's Surprise

This week we have been reading the story "Handa's Surprise" set in Kenya.  The children tasted tropical fruits and developed their descriptive language.  Many of us were adventurous and tried the tangy passionfruit!  We wrote a riddle and described what our chosen fruit looks, tastes and feels like.

Week 2

 Peepo!

We have been looking at the story "Peepo!" by Janet and Allan Ahlberg.  A story set in the 1940's which looks at what a baby can see as they look around their family home.  We enjoyed comparing some of the rooms in the story, to what our houses and rooms look like now.  We saw a kettle, an iron and toilets that were very different from what we are used to!

Super Sounding out and Writing Sentences!

Father's Day Cards

We made Father’s day cards to say thank you to a special male person in our lives.  Reception used their brilliant drawing skills to create a lovely card for their special person.  Happy Father’s Day to all the male role models out there and Father figures.

Week 1

 Sam Plants a Sunflower

Reception enjoyed looking through this book by Axel Scheffler and the National Trust.  Sam loves big, yellow sunflowers and decides to plant his own seeds. We watched the seeds grow and loved the big sunflower pop-up surprise at the end.  Reception used the helpful tips to plant their own seeds and write instructions.

Rekenreks

This week the children have been introduced to rekenreks in maths. Rekenreks are similar to an abacus and we have been learning how to use them.
We know that instead of counting each bead across, we can subitise (instantly look at a number of objects and recognise how many there) and move a number across at the same time.  We have been practising this subitising by putting our finger in the correct place and moving the beads across together. We can confidently do this and have achieved and demonstrated this in just a couple of lessons!
