Spring A
Week 5
Lots of active movement for Year 4 this week! Despite the rainy weather, the children still managed to improve their fundamental skills of stamina and agility learning and practising a range of gymnastics jumps and some fun Just Dance moves! The children loved learning how to be in sync with one another and ACDC’s ‘Thunderstruck’ track remembering to bend their knees when they land from their jumps of choice. Well done to all the fantastic performances 👏 They also continued their learning of states of matter in science this week too. Exploring how solids become liquids, Year 4 melted chocolate to see if it could be reshaped as a liquid… and it could, they made chocolate buttons from square pieces 🍫
Week 4
This week, Year 4 were delighted to look after the new school tortoise. They spent lots of time giving her strokes and making sure she had enough food to eat across the week. Year 4 worked really hard to ensure that they were quiet and careful when in the classroom to make sure she felt comfortable and safe. In PE this week, they loved playing our new popcorn game which underpins the fundamental skills of hand eye coordination and agility. In art this week, the children have began to create their paper puppets, designing their animals on card ready to add split pins next week and create mini animations with their animals. Finally, the children investigated whether all solids could melt into liquids in science. After lots of fun and observations, they found out that not all solids can melt into liquids only some!
Week 3
Jasmine class have ended the week on a high! Not only did we win the highest class attendance this week but we also now get to look after our school tortoise for the next week 🐢 She’s yet to be named so look out for the parent poll and have your say! Earlier in the week, the children had the opportunity to meet and interact with her. They cannot wait to look after her on Monday! This week the children also had an exciting science lesson where they explored granular solids, recognising that liquids spread out in the bottom of the container but granular solids, even though they can be poured, can pile up and keep their shape.
Week 2
This week, Year 4 have been working on their fundamental skills of balance in gymnastics. They partnered up with a friend to counter balance one another using their core muscles to maintain strength and stability. The children have also continued to work on their hand eye coordination, agility and throwing skills participating in a carousel of activities. Within history, Year 4 have started their new unit exploring the Stone, Bronze and Iron Age using chronological timelines. They are so excited to learn more about how prehistoric man lived! Finally, within art this week, the children used line art to create basic animal shapes inspired by Steve Kirby and Andrew Fox, learning how pencil drawings can be manipulated into animation.
Week 1
Year 4 have had a fantastic start to 2026, already impressing Miss Richardson with their brilliant attitudes towards lessons! This week, Year 4 had an exciting visit from The Arts Society, who told stories and played instruments alongside. The children loved getting involved by conducting and clapping along to the beat of the percussion. Year 4 have also started their new unit in RE this week, where they explored the different representations of Jesus and how many people draw Jesus in the likeness of themselves.
