‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Spring A

Week 6

This week we have looked at area, perimeter and volume in maths. In English we have continued with Kensuke’s Kingdom, writing from different perspectives andanakisung the languge used in the text.

We had our last ceilidh dancing session. We’ve learnt three different dances in the few weeks we’ve been learning and had so much fun. See the video below of one of our dances.

Week 5

This week we have had a mock SATs week. The purpose of this was not only to find out where the children are at academically and identify any gaps in their knowledge, but also to let them know the format and what to expect. They all worked very hard and behaved brilliantly. Well done Year 6.

Week 4

This week in English we used our Oracy 21 skills to discuss the five essential things we’d need if we were stranded on a desert island, just like Michael in our book Kensuke’s Kingdom. It was a brilliant discussion and really got the children thinking and prioritising. In maths we finished fractions and then started percentages. In science, we looked at series and parallel circuits and in history, we explored Roman towns and roads in Britain.

Week 3

This week in English we have started our new class book called Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo, looking at some of the more tricky words used and what they mean. In maths we have continued fractions. We’ve had fun in science too, doing experiments with static electricity. In history, we’ve discovered why the Romans left Britain and fiinally in P.E. we’ve been stretching and chilling with yoga.

Week 2

We learnt a new dance in our Ceilidh dancing session this week, as well as putting our first dance to music. In maths we have been practicing adding and taking away fractions and converting improper fractions.

Week 1

Welcome back everyone. This week we've been recapping fractions in maths as well as focusing on our basic skills using the 4 operations. In English, using our class book Song From Someone Else, we did a character analysis and also looked at idioms. In art, the children had lots of fun drawing fantasy maps. And finally, we all joined in learning some Ceilidh dance moves.
