Spring A
Week 3
This week in Year 2, we have been busy learning across the curriculum. In English, we enjoyed writing similes to describe the characters and events in The Tear Thief, using imaginative vocabulary to bring our ideas to life.
In maths, we have begun our work on multiplication and division, exploring equal and unequal groups and developing our understanding through practical activities. As part of our basic skills, we have also been focusing on the 2 times tables.
During reading comprehension, we worked hard on identifying true or false statements, making sure we could find evidence in the text to support our answers.
In P.E., we continued our yoga journey, practising different poses while travelling through the jungle, helping us to build strength, balance and mindfulness.
Week 2
Another busy week in Year 2, we’ve been learning all about money in Maths – comparing different amounts, calculating with coins and notes, and finding different ways to make £1. In PE, we’ve continued practising yoga and learning some new poses to help with balance, strength and flexibility.
In RE, we’ve been exploring what Hindus believe and learning about some of the key ideas in Hinduism. In Science, we went on a materials hunt walk, spotting and identifying different materials around our school environment. In History, we’ve been looking at modes of transport from the past and present and discussing how travel has changed over time.
Week 1
Year 2 have had a busy and exciting start to the term! In maths, the children have begun learning about money, practising recognising coins and understanding their value. In English, we have started a new class book, The Tear Thief, and the children have loved making thoughtful predictions about the story. We were also lucky to take part in a music workshop, Introducing Instruments, led by world-class musicians who inspired the children with a range of amazing sounds. In P.E., we have started yoga, focusing on balance, strength and calmness, and we enjoyed a visit to a local synagogue where we learned more about Judaism and its traditions.
