Spring A
Week 7
Well we have arrived at the end of another half term. Time has gone so quickly and we have completed so much learning. We have continued to learn about and use the tool from the Zones of Regulation as well as continuing to develop our Oracy 21 skills right across the curriculum.
This week we have been been continuing to learn about How children's live have changed. We have been researching the conditions that children live in and the jobs that they had to do from very young ages. We have decided it's much better to be a child now than it was in Victorian times!
Week 6
This week has been a really busy week. We have been completing our assessments in Reading, Writing and Maths thinking about everything we have learned over the past few weeks.
We have also been discussing the Zones of Regulation thinking about our different emotions, what causes them and how we can regulate them to take ourselves into the Green Zone.
We have also started 2 new Topics. In history we have begun the topic of How Children's Lives have Changed since Tudor times. We begun by thinking about which elements of children's lives have changed and and which ones have continued and are looking forward to learning more about children's and how they have changed.
In Art we have begun our Topic about Pop Art and are learning all about the work of Andy Warhol and other artists who's work is in the style of Pop Art. We discovered a bold use of bright colours in this style and our looking forward to producing our own art in this style
Week 5
The children have been really enjoying our symmetry work in Maths. One child described it as "being so much fun" and many quickly found their confidence in drawing a line of symmetry, reflecting an image using a mirror and rotating it through 360 degrees. In English, the children used a poignant picture to inspire them to write a description, using class discussion and their five senses to enrich their writing.
Week 4
Year Four have been enjoying our music topic ‘Three Little Birds’. As well as learning the song, which is familiar to many of the children, they have been enjoying the vocal warm ups, call and response clapping and especially playing the glockenspiel, a percussion instrument. The class have listened to other songs in the reggae genre and have been working towards their own performance for their peers.
In maths, we have been focusing on shape and in particular polygons and quadrilaterals, investigating their properties, as well as similarities and differences.
Week 2
This Week we have been continuing to develop our cycling skills with Mrs Williams. We had started before Christmas however, the weather wasn't very kind so we could not cycle some weeks so we are continuing this term. The children are becoming really confident and skilled at riding their bikes safely.
In Maths, we are continuing to develop our multiplication and division skills and are using inverse operations to check our answers and remembering to use tricks attached to some of the times tables to help us further.
In English, we are continuing to read our new class book The Iron Man. The children have been finding out the definitions of unknown words using an online dictionary. We learned that this isn't always a straight forward task as works can have different meanings so we had to remember to think about the context in which they were used. In our Big Writing session, we wrote a character description, based upon a Roald Dahl book. Amongst other types of speech, we used adverbs, similes and metaphors to bring our writing to life.
We have enjoyed working in the Bush craft area, with Mrs McHatton and our class teacher, this week. Remembering how to keep ourselves safe, we practiced our cutting skills, with a partner, using a bow saw.
Week 1
Happy New Year everyone and welcome back! We hope you've all had a lovely Christmas.
We have had a super start to the week after coming back from the holidays.
We have begun reading a new book in English called the Iron Man. We began by looking at the front cover and the blurb and asked questions and made observations about we could see. Then we read through some extracts from the book and again thought about what the book could be about and who the different characters were, where they came from and why they were there. It was a super hook to the book and we can't wait to find out more about the mysterious Iron Man!
In Maths we have started a new topic on multiplication and division. The children have made a great start showing super times tables knowledge. We have also been learning about different angles, in shape lessons. We were asked to identify and compare acute, obtuse and right angles, and we used facts about each kind to help us.
In computing lessons, we started looking at a new scheme of work and discussed the different ways that we communicate and what the advantages and disadvantages were of the various types. The children were very good at working with partners, to discuss the pros and cons of lots of different forms of communication e.g. email, letter and text and recorded their work on an electronic mind map.
