‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Spring A

Week 7

We've had a good week this week. The children produced some great work in our Big Write session, producing a non~chronological report about the Tongo Lizard. In maths we have been recapping on dividing and multiplying numbers by 10, 100 and 1000. On Wednesday, the children enjoyed their first session of African drumming and showed they could remember what they had learnt last year. On Thursday the children were treated to a movie morning in the hall followed by geography. Finally on Friday, we watched a silent Hold The Drama show. We hope you have a great week off everyone.

Week 6

This week we celebrated Safer Internet Day where the children enjoyed activities around keeping them safe online. We were also treated to an amature theatre showing of Grease at a local secondary school. The children were on their best behaviour and really enjoyed the show. It was nice seeing siblings, cousins, friends and past pupils among the cast too.

Week 5

This week we have been looking at simple algebra in maths as well as doing lots of reasoning questions as part of our SATs practice. In English we have been looking at direct speech using our class text The Water Tower, and how to take some speech and add it correctly into our story. We have also been looking at personification where the children wrote a lovely piece about a pencil.

Week 4

This week our main focus has been on writing a suspense piece of work based on our book The Water Tower by Steven Woolman. The children took time to plan their work and then wrote it up, producing some excellent work as you can see in the gallery below.

In maths, we have been looking at ratio and calculating increasing and decreasing amounts while still keeping the ratio relationship. In art we also made some street art inspired by Keith Haring which you can also see in the gallery below.

Week 3

This week has been all about test SAT papers. We have taken a baseline this week to see the areas of the curriculum the children are confident with and areas to focus on. Everyone has worked really hard, well done Year 6.

Week 2

We have been stepping up our SATs practice and that is our main focus at the moment. We also enjoyed Geography where we looked at how coastlines are formed.

Week 1

Welcome back Year 6. We hope you have had a lovely Christmas break. We have begun our new book called The Water Tower, where we’ve been trying to think what the book is about based on the front cover. We’ve been recapping some of our maths topics, getting our brains ready to start new work next week. In Geography, we looked at weathering and erosion with a cool experiment freezing water.

Some of our boys enrolled on a firefighting course for three days where they learnt about teamwork, resilience, communication and cooperation. They had a brilliant time and really shone during the practicals.

Great first week back everyone.
