Choir
We welcome everyone at West Denton Primary to join the school choir, we even have some of our staff that take part. We enjoy celebrating our love and passion for singing on a weekly basis throughout the whole school year. The choir is a great place to build a sense of belonging and community.

Grainger Market
The children in the choir had a fabulous time performing their favourite Christmas songs for customers of the Grainger Market in Newcastle. From 'Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer' to Wham's 'Last Christmas' our audience was very impressed.

The Wizard of Oz
This year we followed the yellow brick road to the Emerald City with Dorothy. Along the way we made friends with the Scarecrow, Tin man and the Lion. The choir worked so hard this year learning their lines and remembering the staging that had been set. The costumes looked fabulous in the stage lighting and the script had everyone laughing all the way through. This years script was provided by Tom Whalley. We were joined by the Lord Mayor of Newcastle and the Newcastle West MP Chi Onwurah who both thoroughly enjoyed the show and said that they're looking forward to their next invite.

Hold The Drama
Hold the Drama uses music as a way to start conversations about emotions and feelings.
Audiences can both articulate the plots of the shows and then unpick their own emotional responses with inspiring clarity. This approach can unlock powerful discussions, in which audience members use what they’ve seen to reflect on their personal experiences.

The children in Year 5 worked together with Seniora Perez to learn 'What a Wonderful World' by 'Louis Armstrong' in Spanish. They sounded amazing singing this unfamiliar song for the Newcastle Festival of Languages. The video was amalgamated along with lots of other schools to create an amazing united video celebrating many languages.

During Samba drum lessons the children develop their understanding and skills of how to keep a beat, changing the dynamics of music and copying rhythms using call and response. The children are given opportunities to compose, improvise and perform their own musical compositions as an ensemble or in a solo context. At the end of the workshop, the children performed their Samba performance to their parents and their peers.
