‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Autumn A

Week 7

This week the children have been writing sentences about our trip to Jesmond Dene using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. In maths they have been working hard on addition using part whole models. In history the children could make suggestions about what to put in a time capsule.

Week 6

The children enjoyed the trip to Jesmond Dene, we saw lots of animals, explored the park, fed some baby goats and went on a senses walk. The rest of the week has been busy, the children have been labelling Little Red Riding Hood and thinking about adjectives to describe the way she looks. The children were very excited to take their maths lesson outside to run races and order themselves into their positions using ordinal numbers. We also explored the different ways plants are used for food, shelter and to make things in our RE lesson.

Week 5

The children had a wonderful time in science drawing around their peers before labelling their body parts and began to start thinking about which parts of the body relate to each of the 5 senses. In RE we created pictures using the descriptions from different religious beliefs based off the creation stories that are told.

Week 4

This week the children have continued to develop their sentence writing by using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. We focused our sentences around what the characters from Little Red Riding Hood might say through the story. In maths we have been focusing on comparing amounts with one more or one less than a given number and using mathematical language to record the answer. The children have been having so much fun thinking about animals diets and categorising them into carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. This week in history the class discussed their memories around celebrating their birthdays in the past.

Week 3

This week the children have worked hard at creating their own story maps for Little Red Riding Hood. They have also tested out their acting skills out by reenacting the story to their friends. It has been lovely to hear the children share their favourite memories in history and compare the features of mammals and birds in science.

Week 2

The children are settling in to the routines of Year 1 really well. It was so great to see so many of the parents attend our welcome meetings this week.
This week we have been busy learning capital letters, counting, grouping animals, creating timelines and lots more.

Capital Letter Matching

Week 1

It was great to welcome the children back to school this week. The children all came in so smartly dressed with so much holiday news. We spent some time sharing our stories from the holidays. We read the book 'Super Duper You' by 'Sophy Henn' and dusted off our pencils to write some fantastic sentences about what makes us super.
