Autumn A
Week 4
In English, we continued our work on The Great Kapok Tree. We acted out a Conscience Alley, with one child acting as the man from the story who comes to chop the tree down. The children either side of the alley acted as his conscience, giving him reasons either for or against chopping the tree down. They used some excellent persuasive language! In music this week, we moved on from singing Mamma Mia to learning to play some parts on the glockenspiel.
Week 3
This week, we continued our work on The Great Kapok Tree in English. The children wrote some fantastic persuasive letters from the perspective of one of the rainforest animals, asking the man not to chop down the tree. In RE, we looked at how metaphors are often used in religion, and the children created posters about one of the religious metaphors. In computing, we have been learning about malware and the importance of not trusting everything we see on the internet. In music, we think the children have mastered ABBA’s Mamma Mia. Next week, it will be time to get the glockenspiels out!
Mamma Mia

Week 2
This week, we started reading our class text 'The Great Kapok Tree.' The children wrote some great examples of direct speech as well as fantastic descriptive writing based on the story. In maths, we had a really tricky lesson which was flexible partitioning. The children persevered, and after lots of practise on whiteboards, we cracked it! In PE, as well as cycling, we started hockey. The first lesson was all about beginning to learn some basic skills.
Week 1
It was great to welcome all of the children back to school this week, and lovely to see how ready to learn they were! We have been settling in to our new timings and routines, and have had a very busy first week! In art, the children created self portraits, and they enjoyed comparing them to last year, and seeing the progress they have made. In geography, we began learning about the Amazon rainforest, and the children also learned about different biomes. In English, myself and the children wrote letters to each other so that we can all get to know each other better. I was very impressed with some of the handwriting! In maths, we started with a recap of representing and partitioning 3 digital numbers, before moving on to 4 digit numbers! Music was a hit this week, as our song focus for this half term is 'Mamma Mia' by ABBA.
