Newcastle City Council Welfare and Wellbeing Team Self-isolation support

Newcastle City Council’s Welfare and Wellbeing Team provide support for residents who are self-isolating or are clinically extremely vulnerable and need extra help. Residents should always seek help from their friends, family and community first, and use online resources to contact support services directly. Where this is not possible, the Welfare and Wellbeing team can help. They can talk residents through how long to isolate for, and what they can and cannot do if you are CEV. They can match residents to a volunteer to do their shopping, walk their dog, or phone them to check the resident is doing okay. The team can signpost to food banks who can with free or low cost food, and in an emergency,  may be able to provide a food parcel. The Welfare and Wellbeing Team can refer residents to the Council's finance teams who can offer advice and support around debt, budgeting, benefits and other financial issues.

To get support, please complete this online form or visit www.newcastle.gov.uk/welfare .

Alternatively, call 0800 170 7001 or 0191 277 8000, and someone can complete the form on behalf of the resident.

The Team work Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday from 9am – 3pm. Those requiring immediate support, will be contacted by telephone on the same day (except Sundays). For all other requests, the Team will call within 36 hours. The team will provide a reduced service on working days over the Christmas period. Residents are asked to plan ahead and consider their needs for this time when many support services will not be operating as usual.

    Dear Families,

I hope that you have all found the Open Week  meetings via telephone useful this week. Staff have told me that they enjoyed the experience of discussing each child's progress with their parents and carers. If you were not able to speak to your child's class teacher, please e-mail them directly to arrange another telephone appointment.

As you know with National Lockdown and  COVID-19, life has changed massively for us all on so many different levels. Working in 'Bubbles' and restrictions on visitors into school means that out annual Christmas festivities cannot go ahead in their normal format. However we are planning an online Christmas carol show with the Christmas Story tableau. Also, the WDPS Bushcraft Area will be transformed into a magical area which we hope will attract a special person in a red suit to greet the children in their bubble groups. A traditional Christmas lunch will be served to our Key Stage 2 children on Wednesday 9th December and to Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 on Wednesday 16th December.

Please follow us on our Twitter link at the bottom of the home page as we regularly post pictures of children enjoying stimulating learning experiences. Also, check your child's Class Page each Friday to see what they have been up to during the week.

At WDPS we have created our unique WDPS Life Skills Challenge Award (LSCA) which promotes a 'Natural Me' and 'Healthy Me' focus  as we believe that children and adults  benefit from positive time spent playing and exercising outdoors. Research shows that physical exercise is important for mental as well as physical wellbeing. Please encourage your family to spend quality time outdoors together as it is a lovely respite from screen time.

Improving Reading is a whole school priority focus as all children need the skills to conduct research and also to enjoy the creative pleasure of the written word. As a family, enjoy reading some of the book reviews which you can access from the homepage: 'About Us' then 'WDPS-Whole School Focus.Let’s all work together to make every WDPS child a fluent, keen and resilient reader at home and at school. Reading includes everything from learning and practising the Read Write Inc (RWI) Phonics to helping your children to conduct research for a school topic and also to improving their language knowledge through reading a wide range of challenging books from different genres.

Let’s make sure all our children receive the best wraparound support so that they achieve all that they are capable of in life.

Enjoy a fun and relaxing weekend with your family.

    Kind regards,

    Mick

    Dear Families,

Thank you to all adults for wearing a face covering or a face covering exemption lanyard when you have been on the school site this week.  Working together with staff, we are living out the WDPS Core Values of

'Caring', 'Respect' and 'Principled'  as we do all that we can to protect all children and adults.

Because of the new National Lockdown and guidelines on visitors into schools, we have had to postpone work with visiting staff  who  provide the extended curricular music, dance, art and other sports.

Thank you for supporting your children with their homework on 'Seesaw'. It gives me and your children's teachers great pleasure to see how enthusiastically the children have taken to this creative digital platform.
