‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Autumn Term A

Week 7

This week we baked bread in Bushcraft and enjoyed our last street dance session. We learned to play different percussion instruments in Music and we performed "Che Che Kule", an African song. In Art we have been making poppy mosaics.

Week 6

In Bushcraft, Year 5/6 have enjoyed working on fire safety awareness, building dens and making pizzas baked on an open fire.  We decorated our area in Halloween style, adding pumpkins grown from our school allotments.

Week 5

Year 5 and 6 children enjoyed meeting the principle from Studio West this week, who shared lots of information about her school. It was lovely to watch a video of two of our former WDPS students, who answered all of our questions about high school. In the Bushcraft area we toasted marshmallows and practised whittling with a tool. We are continuing to enjoy reading "War Horse".

Week 4

We have loved learning to perform "Livin’ on a Prayer" and the glockenspiel accompaniment in Music this week. We also joined in with Rock Steady Live, which was great fun. Mr. MingStones came and presented our Star of the Week certificates to celebrate our learning. In Bushcraft we continued to weave and practise with the flint and steel and in Maths we were using a place value grid when learning about numbers up to 10,000,000. Busy, busy, busy!

Week 3

This week we have practising lighting fires with a flint and steel in bushcraft.  We were also lucky enough to have a WW1 workshop delivered by ‘That History Bloke’, which taught loads about WW1 and a local hero from High Spen. To top off our busy week, we have been rocking out with Rock Steady Music and learning to play the electric guitar, keyboard and drums.

Week 2

Harvesting

This week we have been harvesting fruits, vegetables and seeds from our allotment and Edible Garden.

Week 1

Bushcraft - Clay Guardians of the Forest

Our children in Year 5/6 have been in the bushcraft area working on their mental wellbeing and life skills.  They have been making guardians of the forest, using clay and natural loose parts, to protect the trees from goblins.  They have also made dens in teams and used their imagination to create their own games.

Making Music

Using creativity and imagining to create our own compositions.

Gardening

Our children have been working in our Allotments and Edible Garden taking responsibility for their safety whilst using tools to clear the weeds.  They also found mini beasts and tried some of the fruits that have flourished.
