β€˜A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Spring Term B

Spring 2 Week 6

We had fun making crispy cornflake Easter nests. We even made little baskets to Cary them home safely! We are looking forward to tasting them soon πŸ˜‹πŸ«

Many thanks go to our families for supporting our appeal for donations to go to Ukraine. You have been very generous. The children looked great in their yellow and blue outfits. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ 🌻

Our first whole school assembly as a class! The winners of the Easter egg decorating competition were announced and the Easter Egg raffle was drawn. All of our entrants did a great job decorating their eggs. Well done to our winner, Lacey! Thank you for supporting the school with your raffle ticket purchases 😊

Great to see that most of our cress heads have grown really well on the windowsill with plenty of sunshine and water! It might go well in a salad or sandwich β˜€οΈ

Spring 2 Week 5

Congratulations to our children who received an Achievers Award this week! Well done to Dylan, Ali, Hassan, Amelia F & Octavia πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸŒŸ

We had great fun making cress heads in Science this week! We had to draw faces on our pots before putting damp cotton wool inside and sprinkling the small brown cress seeds on top. We have placed the pots on the windowsill in the hope that the sunshine will help them to grow! πŸŒ±β˜€οΈπŸ’§

Spring 2 Week 4

Congratulations go to this week’s Achievers Award recipients. Great job to Malik, Isla, Amelia J, Lia and Amelia W for their positive attitude this week πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸŒŸ

Friday afternoons are great for our musical treat courtesy of Rock Steady Music School, which teaches the children about different aspects of music in a fun way. We have learned about pitch, rhythm and singing and signing to a popular song. We hope you like the pictures of us having a dance to Twist and Shout! πŸ˜ŠπŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸŽ΅πŸŽΆ

Spring 2 Week 3

Congratulations to our children receiving Achievers Awards this week. A round of applause to Seren, Macie, Aminah and Lacey πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸ‘

We had great fun on Friday for Comic Relief Day, dressing up as our favourite heroes and characters! Many thanks to all of our families for your generous donations 😊🌟🦸🏾

We had a fantastic day out at Gibside on Thursday to develop our skills for our Life Skills Challenge Award, led by Mrs McHatton. Luckily the weather was kind to us! We identified some trees by their twigs and leaves, then had a snack break at the Orangery in the sunshine! This gave us the energy to go on a Gruffalo scavenger hunt in the woods, where we had to find pictures from different parts of the story. After lunch we visited Strawberry Castle, which is a wonderful play area with a sand pit, zip wire, slides and wooden castle to explore. We then headed back to school on the WDPS minibuses, tired but happy! β˜€οΈπŸŒ²πŸŒ³πŸͺ΅πŸƒπŸ‚

Spring 2 Week 2

Congratulations to Dylan, Ellie-Jo, Jenson , Jessica and Aminah on their Achiever’s Awards this week. Well done! πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸŒŸ

We also planted sunflower seeds on Environment Day. We just need some sunshine to help them grow! β˜€οΈ 🌻

On Environment Day, we had fun designing and decorating log slices which could be used as a necklace or decoration. Don’t they look colourful? 🌈

Spring 2 Week 1

Well done to this week’s Achievers on their certificates! Leo, Owen, Kaiden, Amelia & Ali were very pleased πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘πŸŒŸ

This week in bushcraft, we used our creative skills to make mini beasts and small animals out of clay. We discussed which creatures we might find living in the woods and forests. πŸͺ±πŸžπŸ•·πŸ¦‹πŸπŸ‡

As part of World Book Day, we had a webinar with the illustrator Axel Scheffler. He is famous for illustrating such wonderful stories as The Gruffalo, Zog and Stickman. He read us a couple of stories and demonstrated his fabulous drawing skills! ✍️🎨

During World Book Day, we visited our newly stocked and revamped school library. The children chose some of the lovely new books for us to share in class. Mr MingStones dropped by and read us a story, The Smeds and the Smoos by Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler.

Thursday 3rd March was the 25th World Book Day! We celebrated by dressing up as our favourite story characters. We’re sure you’ll agree that everyone looked amazing! πŸ“–πŸ“š

This week we have been learning about maps in Geography. We have made our own sketch maps of the local area and have learned about compass points. We have even made our own compasses! πŸ—ΊπŸ§
