‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Summer Term A

Week  6

How fast this term has flown! This week we’ve been practising our cricket skills and learning different ways of tonal shading.

Week 5

This week we were given the challenge of building our own fires, lighting them and keeping them burning, in our Bush Craft sessions- not easy with all of the rain we’ve had this month!
The children produced some amazing creative writing based on an image from ‘The Arrival’. Read some of them below.

Week 4

We have been continuing to read ‘The Arrival’ by Shaun Tann. The children used images from the book to write their own powerful poetry and letters. You can see these videos below. It was also our final week of taking part in the ABC Project, learning about attitudes, behaviours and consequences.

Week 3

The Arrival, by Shaun Tan, is our new class text, which we started this week. The children are fascinated by the wonderful illustrations in this book and they came up with some brilliant predictions, thoughts and questions about some of the images.
The class finished presenting their river enquiries and we now know lots of interesting information about some of the world’s most important rivers.
The children showed their resilience out in the allotments, earlier in the week, in the cold and rain. Not a moan or grumble could he heard. Hopefully the sun will shine on us next time!

Week 2

This week Year 5 took part in Bikeability training and were praised for their outstanding behaviour and positive attitudes, well done Year 5! Year 6 have been cycling with Mrs. Williams. The children have been carrying out enquiries into rivers around the world and presenting their fascinating  findings to the class.  In music, we have been listening to different genres and learning to sing Big River and Wellerman.

Week 1

It is great to back in school following the holidays. What a busy week we have had. In Bushcraft the children have been continuing to work towards their life skills challenge award, using tools to create bug hotels, tying knots and hanging tarps.  We had another ABC lesson learning about what is classed as theft and how to avoid dangerous situations. We have also started our Geography topic about rivers and the children did some excellent group work, drawing and explaining the journey of a river.
