‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Spring Term A

Week 6

This week we have enjoyed time in the allotments, weeding and turning over the beds ready for planting. In maths we were looking at place value of decimals and multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1000. In English we planned, edited and wrote a newspaper report based on the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. We finished the week with a day of art focusing on Impressionism. We hope you have a very restful week off.

Week 5

It's been assessment week this week. We are pleased to say the children have all put in a lot of effort. Well done Year 6. We have finished off ration in maths and now understand how to calculate the ingredient amounts needed for making cookies for increasing groups of people. In geography, we have been taking environmental data and putting it into graphs. In English we have continued with the Water Tower, looking at direct speech and trying to include many linguistic elements into our writing.

Week 4

In maths, we have been learning about ratio, when to apply it and how to write it. In English, we continued with The Water Tower exploring the next section of the story and writing a detailed account, expressing feelings, of Bubba on top of the water tower. We also focusing on relative clauses. We started our Georgraphy topic all about climate change and enjoyed a good work out in P.E.

Week 3

The Dog Trust has been in this week, delivering an assembly and then an in class lesson all about how to look after dogs and keep them happy. This was a very fun session and all the children learned a lot, they particularly enjoyed telling us about their dogs at home. This week in maths we have been looking at units of measurement and how to convert from imperial to metric. In English, we have continued work on our class book called the Water Tower with our Big Write and analysing the two main characters. We have been ploughing through our science lessons this week learning all about water resistance and air resistance, making different size parachutes and seeing which objects sink quickest.

Week 2

This week we have started our new English topic based on The Watertower. We are busy digesting the front cover trying to work out what it could be about, we’ve also written a poem based on how it looks standing on the hill and what we know about it so far. In maths we have continued fractions doing fractions of an amount. We had Bushcraft on Wednesday where the children enjoyed finding footprints in the snow. In the afternoons, we have been doing science experiments based on the impact items have from gravity.
