‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Summer A

Week 3

This week we started a brand new topic in science about Sound. We have learned that sound is made through vibrations. We investigated what happens when we made loud and quiet noised. We used a drum and some lentils and hit the drum in different ways starting softly and moving to hitting it very hard. We found that with a soft hit the lentils jumped a little bit but when we hit the drum really hard the lentils bounced really high spreading out all the way across the drum and some even jumped right off the drum. We found out that loud sounds create much bigger vibrations or amplitudes.

Week 2

This week we have been continuing out Art topic all about Indian Art. We all produced our own printing block known as a bunta using string and cardboard. We tried to include designs in line with Indian art and enjoyed using a roller and printing tray to produce very effective printing in our sketch books.

Week 1

This week we have continued reading How To Wash a Wooly Mammoth and were learning to read, write and follow instructions identifying the features as we went. One of the tasks was to follow the instructions to make our own Wooly Mammoth out of an empty milk carton and brown tissue paper. We were really pleased with our Mammoths and followed the instructions well.
