‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Autumn Term A

Week 7

We started the week off with making delicious pizzas in the bushcraft area and we continued our hockey lessons in PE. The rest of the week has had a spooky theme for Halloween. The children did a fantastic ‘Haunted House' big write and we also created some Halloween crafts. The children enjoyed entering our spooky classroom on Friday morning and we loved seeing their Halloween costumes. We hope you all enjoy your half term break, and don’t forget to check Seesaw for your homework!

Week 6

The children have been working very hard this week on completing their Autumn assessments, however we still found time for lots of fun. Some of our class continued to work with artist John Quinn, taking a virtual tour of The Laing Art Gallery, and experimenting with using watercolour paints. The online Rocksteady music lesson had a spooky theme this week for Halloween, and the children enjoyed dancing and singing along to “Ghostbusters”.
We are beginning to use “Seesaw“ and you can use the logins your child brought home to access this week’s times tables.

Week 5

We started the week off well with toasting marshmallows in the bushcraft area. The children also started using our new programme “Purple Mash” in our computing lesson, where they were using basic coding to make fish and other sea creatures swim around their screens! We continued writing about the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in our English lessons and the children produced some lovely descriptive writing.

Week 4

This week we started column addition in maths and continued reading "Escape from Pompeii" in our English lessons. The children used a thesaurus to find synonyms for the word 'shake' to write their own earthquake poems. We have also been learning all about what the Romans did for entertainment, including gladiator fights!

Week 3

Yet another busy week in year 3!  We made 'journey sticks' and the children enjoyed tying on all of the things they'd found on their walk in the bushcraft area.  We have enjoyed lots of music this week.  The children had their first ukelele lesson and also took part in a workshop delivered by Rocksteady Music, where some of the children formed their very own band! In our Romans topic, we learned all about the legend of Romulus and Remus, and how Rome was founded.

Week 2

The Romans and Rocksteady

This week, we started our new topic all about the Romans.  I was pleased to hear that some of the children already knew some facts about the Romans!  We have also started looking at our new Literacy text, "Escape from Pompeii".  Rocksteady Music School have been running 'Feel Good Friday' which is a live online music session. The children really enjoyed learning about beat and pitch, and having a good dance and singalong on a Friday afternoon!

Week 1

Bushcraft Clay Guardians

Year 3 are all glad to be back and we have had lots of fun this week. We started off in the bushcraft area working on mental wellbeing and  life skills. The children made clay guardians to protect our forest from the goblins! In Maths we have been refreshing our brains by beginning with some place value work, and in English I enjoyed reading letters from the children telling me all about themselves. We have been learning all about Picasso and we had a go at starting to draw portraits in his style.  Year 3 also had a good laugh at how strange they look!
