‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Spring Term B

Week 3

Home Reading

This Week

The children have continued to work hard in maths this week, finding a fraction of a shape or set of objects. We had more fun in art, as Joy from the Laing Art Gallery worked with us on different printing techniques. We created some collagraphs and also used different materials and textures to create some rubbings, which is called frottage. On Thursday, we were very busy in our allotments! The children enjoyed planting potatoes, lavender and strawberries as well as sowing a variety of different seeds.

Week 2

This Week

We have had lots of fun in year 3 this week! On Monday, we had a visit from an artist from The Laing, who continued to teach us different drawing techniques. We also started our tag rugby sessions, which was lots of fun. We used Lego to understand fractions in maths, and we continued reading our new book Ug:Boy Genius of The stone Age, which involved writing an advert for a pair of mammoth trousers! On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day and we loved seeing all of the fantastic costumes.

Week 1

We have been real artists this week on our visit to the Laing Art Gallery. The children took great pride in their new sketchbooks as they took part in a variety of activities. We played some drawing games and it was really tricky to draw without looking at the paper! We also experimented with different drawing techniques such as hatching and stippling. In the afternoon, we created some lovely prints using ink and polystyrene. Look out for more creative activities next week, as the Laing Art Gallery come to us in school!
