‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Autumn Term B

Week 7

It’s the final week! This last week we have been doing Christmas activities, making Christmas cards, calendars and had a visit to Santa’s grotto. We are finishing the week with our Christmas party. Well done to all the children for their hard work this term. We hope you have a very merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you all in the new year.

Week 6

It’s been bread week this week in Year 6! The children have been learning all about different kinds of bread, from how they look, feel and smell to how they taste. We even made our own bread which the children really enjoyed, especially the eating part. The whole school also enjoyed their Christmas dinner together in the hall in their classes. Next week is the last week before Christmas so we hope to have some lovely cards and calendars made that the children will bring home.

Week 5

We are getting ready for Christmas this week in school. Our tree is up and we've been practising our lines and song ready for our Virtual Carol Service. We can't wait for you to see it. In English we have finished our book War Horse which the children have really enjoyed. Hopefully we'll get to watch the movie in the last couple of weeks before we break up. In science we've been learning about the human body, the skeleton and how we age. Hope you have a lovely weekend.

Week 4

It’s been another productive and busy week in Year 6.  We’ve been continuing our WW1 topic in English by reading a few more chapters of our book War Horse, thinking in depth about the text and answering questions on it. Well done to those children who completed the Battle of the Somme English homework this week. We were really impressed with the work the children produced and have added it to their school books. In maths, we’ve been continuing with division to really cement in this skill with the children. We’ve also been looking at online safety this week where the children have designed online safety posters. See these in our gallery below. We hope you have a great weekend.

Week 3

This week, we have been looking at rationing during the war. The children made some lovely posters as you can see in the gallery below. In Maths we have been doing division. We’ve also been doing a lot of work on Reading Plus which the children seem to really enjoy.

Week 2

It was lovely to welcome back a full class this week and was nice to speak to so many of you at parents evening. We got straight back into it with algebra in maths. We have also been doing lots of work for Remembrance day with poetry; writing our own and also reciting In Flanders Fields by John McCrae. Please watch our video below.

We've also been looking at a new online reading platform called Reading Plus. We would like you to encourage the children to use this site at least 3 times a week as it helps with their reading stamina, speed, understanding and will also help them in their writing. The children have been using it in school so are familiar with how to use it. Login details were also sent out with your child this week. Thanks for your cooperation.
