‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Spring Term B

Week 4

 Oliver's Fruit Salad

Reception enjoy taking part in bushcraft sessions and love to be outdoors with Mrs McHatton.  This week we listened to the story "Oliver's Fruit Salad" by Vivian French and made our own colourful fruit kebabs.  We toasted s’mores around a cosy fire, all this hard work will go towards achieving our life skills challenge award in school.

Blue room reception had a wonderful trip to Wallington Hall.   We hunted for landmarks on our walk, fed the ducks, climbed in the adventure playground and had a picnic with our classmates in a yurt.

Week 3

Scary Spuds

Reception had drag and drop fun in ICT while making their own Scary Spud villains.

Scary Spud Designs

In bushcraft we made bird feeders and created artwork using natural leaf prints and charcoal from the fire pit.

Reception designed and wrote about their own superhero.  We used 'wow' vocabulary such as wicked and courageous to describe our characters.

In Maths the Evil Pea has been stealing food from the supermarket.  We have working out how to 'take away' and begin to record a number sentence.

Week 2

 Supertato

Reception had their first bushcraft session with Mrs McHatton.  We enjoyed hunting for fairy doors, making dens and an obstacle course while exploring this new area.

On Wednesday was World Maths Day.  Reception enjoyed completing Superhero challenges.  We measured in cubes the size of superheroes, problem solved using the Numicon pieces to make a city and played superhero number bingo using a dice.

Early years enjoyed a fabulous 'World Book Day'.  Thanks for your help getting the children dressed up as their favourite book characters.  Which character do you like best?  Don't forget the children can cash in their £1 book vouchers in bookshops.

We were inspired by the story "Supertato" by Sue Hendra to make our own supehero and villain vegetables.  Look at our amazing models!

Week 1

Pancake Day

In ICT we are improving our mouse control.  We played a fun game called 'Flip a Pancake'.  Try this game at home by following the link below.  Reception helped poor Mr Wolf write a shopping list to buy pancake ingredients.  We added different toppings to our pancakes and did very well to cut them up.  Our topping choices included strawberry jam, lemon, chocolate spread and golden syrup.  Yum! What is your favourite flavour?
