‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Summer A

 Week 3

Reception have enjoyed a space themed week inspired by the Jill Murphy story “Whatever Next!”.  The children used props to act out the story. We have been practising how to use a capital letter, finger spaces and a full stop when writing sentences.

 If I were an Astronaut

We listened to the story 'If I Were an Astronaut' by 'Eric Braun' being read by a real astronaut Serena Aunon-Chancellor. She showed us some really cool things that she could do in space like read upside down and float around. We also learned the difference between how we clean our teeth, go to the toilet, eat food and go to bed compared to an astronaut.

 Searching the Planets

The children really enjoyed our interactive story as we went on a journey into space. We took a look at some of the characteristics of the planets in our sola system before landing on the moon to practice our moonwalking. We visited Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. The children thought it was very exciting to create actions to represent each planet and it's characteristics.

 Rock Cakes

The children helped make some delicious 'Moon Rock Cakes' as part of their attendance award and enjoyed eating them whilst watching 'The Secret Life of Pets 2'. What a treat and what a mess!

 Gustav Holst

Reception listened to the opposing music compositions Mars and Venus from Gustav Holst’s “The Planets”.  We moved and drew shapes in response to the loud and angry then calm and quiet music.

 Week 2

Lola Fandango

Hola, this week the children have been looking at some of the differences between England and Spain as we celebrated 'Spanish Day'. We looked at the food that is popular in Spain, where you can find Spain on the world map and we even learned some new Spanish words. 'Lola Fandango' is a story about a girl who wants to dance the Flamenco like her mam. She has secret dance lessons from her father to surprise her mother on her birthday. The children learned how to do the Flamenco to the count of 12 whilst clapping.

 Week 1

This week Reception have been listening to the fable 'Little Red Hen'. It was amazing to see how hard the children have worked this week after having two weeks off. Our 'Big Write' challenge this week was to write a speech bubble for one of the animals from our story and we all did amazing!

This week the children have been investigating 3D shapes in maths. We looked at the properties that each 3D shape has and decided whether they have flat faces and curved surfaces. We also tested each shape to see if it's properties made it a good shape to roll, stack or could they do both.

 Baking Bread

This week the children helped 'The Little Red Hen' make bread. The children mixed wheat (flour) with yeast and water to make a dough. Once the children had made a dough they kneaded the dough using their hands before rolling their dough into bread bun shapes ready for baking in the oven. The classroom was smelling delicious.

 100% Attendance

We have the trophy back for our AMAZING attendance this week. Well done Team Red Room!
