‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Autumn Term B

Week 8

What a lovely trip we had today to see Santa! The Bushcraft area had been magically transformed into a beautiful Santa's grotto and the children enjoyed delicious hot chocolate topped with cream and marshmallows. They sang a Christmas carol before describing their Christmas wishes to Santa and hanging them on the wish tree. Then they each received a selection box and a book.

This week in school Christmas activities have kept us busy.

On Monday we visited Allendale House to entertain the residents with our wonderful carol singing. The residents seemed to enjoy listening to us sing and they were kind enough to give us a selection box each for our efforts plus a button to leave out for Father Christmas.

On Tuesday we all enjoyed a delicious Christmas dinner cooked by Wendy and her team of amazing kitchen staff.

We have also been busy making cards and calendars - we can't wait to bring them home for our families to see.

Week 7

We’ve been thoroughly entertained this week. The Year 5 children were stars in their Christmas play, ‘Stable Manners’ and we loved the songs and costumes!  Some of our children went carol singing in the Grainger Market and were treated to a visit to Fenwick’s window- we even saw our bauble designs on display outside Eldon Square. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

Week 6

With Christmas fast approaching we have been practising for our various Christmas concerts performances. We were treated to a pantomime on Tuesday which was hilarious!  During our Bushcraft session, we enjoyed hot chocolate as the first flurries of snow began to fall.

Week 5

We were treated to a Rocksteady music concert this week. We loved watching our friends performing in their bands.
In Computing we have started learning about spreadsheets and we have created our own.

Week 4

This week we have been learning about the Street Artist Banksy and how he uses stencils in his paintings. We made our own stencils and created our own images, combining colours and mediums.  We also enjoyed using bow saws, loppers and Laplander saws in bushcraft this week, to make wooden reindeers.

Week 3

On Monday we wore our odd socks to school to kick off our Anti-bullying week. All week we have completed a range of activities to learn more about bullying and how to prevent it happening.
In maths we have been learning about prime,  composite, square and cube numbers.
We had a amazing time learning to play the steel drums. We absolutely rocked it! Watch our videos to see how brilliant we were.

Week 2

This week we have been learning about Remembrance Day and why it is commemorated every year.  We have learnt a poem and a song in preparation for the whole school Remembrance Assembly on Friday.

These videos show us performing the poem - "In Flanders Fields" by John McCrae - and the song - "Fields of Poppies" (music: Sting; lyrics: Sue Bleazard).

We were delighted to receive a lovely letter from author, David Almond, in response to an email from Mrs Williams. He was also kind enough to send 3 signed books for our school library. Thank you, David Almond.
