‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Autumn A

Week 8

Happy Halloween! We have had great fun at our Halloween Disco and we looked amazing in our fancy dress. Congratulations to our dodgeball team who reached the quarter finals at Throckley Primary. In Art we have been designing and making clay Viking pendants and studying Viking patterns and animal carvings. We finished Goodnight Mr Tom in English and really enjoyed it. Wishing you all a happy half term.

Week 8

Week 7

What a wonderfully creative week we have had. In Art, we have been thinking about Remembrance Day and have created some beautiful silhouette pictures about war using poster paint with a wash effect. We have also been studying Viking art and creating our own knot patterns. In P.E. we have been practising our fitness and we have also been coding and debugging our own Splat the Bug games in Computing.

Week 6

In streets dance we have been continuing to learn new breakdancing moves and our routine is coming along very well. We have been practising passing the ball backwards in tag rugby and developing our attacking skills. In History, we were analysing pictures and illustrations from the past to determine why King Alfred was the only king or queen to have ‘The Great’ after his name.

Week 5

This week we were lucky enough to visit the Great North Museum where we learned about animals and their habitats, predators and prey, microorganisms and we deciphered Egyptian hieroglyphics. The icing on the cake was a film in the planetarium about the search for  alien life.

We learned a new routine in street dance and in history we learned  about Viking Danelaw. In English we have been writing newspaper reports about the declaration of WW2 made by Neville Chamberlain. In maths we have been folding common factors and multiples.

Week 4

Ready, steady and bake… Bushcraft saw us cooking chocolate chip muffins  in the Dutch oven and trying out some new equipment to make delicious cheese toasties. Year 5 got to practise their BMX skills at Chopwell Pump track. We have written letters in English, in role, to Neville Chamberlain, expressing our feelings about going to war with Germany. In History we have been learning about Viking Longships and their clever design features.

Week 3

Another jam packed week of learning- we have been learning about micro-organisms and carried out an investigation to find out which food yeast liked the best. Year 5 have been developing their BMX skills. Our street dance routine is really taking shape and we’ve have also written some fantastic work based around a picture called ‘The wreck’.

Week 2

We have been learning some break-dancing moves in P.E. this week. In the allotment we have been weeding and harvesting blackberries, raspberries and potatoes, some of use more blackberries than we picked! In science we have been classifying birds and plants. Our Reading Plus baselines are finally complete too. In Literacy we are studying Goodnight Mr Tom and we have been writing diary entries.
