‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Spring Term A

Knife Angel Visit and Newcastle Quayside

Our class visited the Knife Angel to learn about Samantha's Legacy, the impact of  knife crime and how it can be prevented. We were all very moved by the beautiful sculpture and the personal messages. The children wrote their own thoughtful messages and on our return to school we practiced our art skills  by sketching the Knife Angel.

We also walked along the Quayside, stopping to look for examples of Ancient Greek architecture as we had been learning about this in our history and art last week.

Knife Angel Sketch, by Ben Year 6.

Week 5

Geocaching at Gibside

Year 5/6 enjoyed an exciting day out at Gibsite geoaching. This involved using GPS (ask your child if they can remember what GPS stands for!) to find little wooden boxes which were hidden around the grounds. When we opened the boxes, there was an activity inside. The activities included creating animals from natural materials, making colour cards and doing a puzzle. Mrs Williams' particularly enjoyed the activity where the children had to be silent for a minute to see what sounds they could hear.

After lunch we walked back to the Strawberry Castle playground - the children played and the adults were entertained by a visiting robin!

Week 4

Our children have been working on their life skills - learning how to use loppers and bow saws in our Bushcraft Area

Week 3

Taking part in First Aid Training with Ray Duell

Raising Aspirations Programme

This week we had an exciting RAP Talk visit from Oxford University Students. We thought about what we might like to be in the future and educational path we might take to achieve our life goals.
