‘A Stepping Stone into the Future’

Spring Term B

Week 6

The children have enjoyed some Easter activities this week, including making their fantastic Easter cards. We continued our fractions work in maths and read more of The Iron Man in English. The space-bat-angel-dragon has landed on Australia and wants to eat anything living! The children drew what they thought the space-bat-angel-dragon looked like and wrote a brief description.

Week 5

We continued our fractions work in maths this week and wrote some fantastic Scrapyard poems in English. The children had to think of all of the delicious things the Iron Man might find in the scrapyard and write poems including alliteration, similes, personification and onomatopoeia. In our robots topic, the children had to work in pairs being the robot and the programmer. The programmer had to give very specific instructions, otherwise their robot would not understand what they had to do!

Week 4

We have enjoyed continuing to read ‘The Iron Man’ this week in English. We held a meeting of angry farmers to discuss the problem of the Iron Man, then the children wrote some fantastic letters persuading Farmer Hughes to help them get rid of him! We started our fractions work in maths this week and we also used the iPads to research interesting facts about robots for our new topic. We were lucky enough to start our NUFC football sessions in P.E. which will continue to run for the next four weeks on a Wednesday.

Week 3

We have had a great and busy first week back. It has been lovely to see all of the children back in school! We started our new text ‘The Iron Man‘ in English, and the children have written some lovely multi-sensory descriptions. We also created some fantastic artwork of the Iron Man using different grades of pencils, drawing ink and rollers and printing ink. In our computing lesson the children created a spreadsheet of their favourite animals and experimented with turning the data into different types of charts and graphs including bar charts and pie charts. In PE we did gymnastics and the children learned all about the different shapes and balances.
